There is a a different perspective, if we lumped the ball forward last season we did not have anyone in forward areas to target. Even you will surely admit that Piroe is not a target man and is not very good playing with his back to the opposition goal. We also had James, BA and MS. To not play out would have been folly.
We are clearly - with the signing of Nmecha etc ensuring we have another outlet that is less likely to lose the ball during initial contact. The signing of Giant Haystack will also provide another target.
Piroe isn't a battling up for headers type I'd agree, he's pretty good with his back to goal and linking play though but yeah from goalkicks it's not much use.
So it may have been folly but also it isn't Farke's way anyway, he's always been a play out from the back safe passing type.
He's never massively gone away from that before so maybe this is a sign he's learned something?

Seen the videos, not convinced. Made a few very good saves last season but not commanding on set pieces.
He will he playing in a team whose average height is about 7ft2

Vids don't work for keepers, used his legs a lot, like Mes, might be dodgy on crosses, like Mes. I did say he reminded me of Meslier elsewhere. Hopefully a slightly better version and maybe just not commiting the 24 carat f**k ups makes him worth buying.

There are very few continental keepers who prefer to catch a cross rather than punch the ball. It has been like this for donkeys. With his build he will hopefully be stronger in the melee than Mes tends to be. Who I thought was not that bad at getting a hand to the ball, it just wasn’t with enough conviction on occasion.

Don't the vast majority of teams try to play it out from the back nowadays?

Be more flexible in whether we go long or not.
If we play the same way as last season we will end up like Southampton.
Not saying be Neil Warnock but be more flexible in that.
This long throwing the keeper can do might hint at that, pick the ball up, launch it, turn defence into attack in an instant.
Enter the speed merchants.

Easy to spoil the keeper throwing it out, he will get obstructed at every opportunity. so it is about picking the right moments. It will be interesting to see if he gets any protection from deliberate spoiling acts.
