Jørgen Strand Larsen- Player travelling for medical at Crystal Palace
First new player thread of January.
Confirmed target by many sources so feels a safe one to make.
6ft3 Norway international striker and close friend of Leeds fan goal machine Erling Haaland with a Leeds season ticket holder as his agent.
Known by most for his exploits on loan at Wolves last season, where he managed 14 goals and 4 assists in just 2500 minutes.
Basically a goal every other game.
Struggled more this season, but so have Wolves.
Does have 6 goals and 2 assists in all competitions though.
Previously he impressed in La Liga at Celta Vigo managing 17 goals and 7 assists in 4610 minutes.
It should be noted he has taken very few penalties and has a better goal and assist ratio at the top level in open play than Calvert-Lewin.
He is decent in the air with decent mobility and work rate.
A pretty clinical finisher generally whose decent with his back to goal and at bringing others into play as his assist show.
Not the fastest it has to he said though.
Quite similar to Calvert-Lewin actually as players but a few years younger.
Is he someone we need?
Whether he and DCL work as a pair not so sure, bit samey, neither blessed with great pace and is a concern they may want to play in the same areas.
But he's younger, better top level open play record and seemingly able to stay fit so it's a different option.

If we can get the right deal for him, then go for it. Whether that's through amoritizing payments to satisfy PSR then so be it.Cjay wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 1:54 pm First new player thread of January.

Sounds like he fits our style of play, but I guess it means playing him and DCL up front.
A back up left back should be a priority, other wise we're slotting square pegs into round holes again, in an area of the pitch that the opposition is already exploiting.
Eddie Gray needs to get Eirik Bakke, Erling Haaland and his Dad to melt JSL's mobile with texts and calls
This for me is the statement signing that we needed and failed to get in the summer.

Said similar to DCL but think JSL is probably a bit more technical, got as many assists last season as DCL has in his last 3.
Suggests maybe better at bringing others into play maybe?
Would be a statement as you say.

Yeah, I think DSL can bring others into play, but this guy may be better at that.Cjay wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 2:10 pm I like the look of JSL (not typing out his name every time).

We also need somebody in midfield pulling the strings as Stach and Aaronson can do a bit, but they are both limited players. Hopefully Buonanotte can play that role, as long as Farke is prepared to use him.
At the moment we're relaying on a selection of 5 DCMs and Aaronson's running around to make us tick offensively.
So far Okafor is a flop, and I'm quite worried about Perri. Darlow is never a number goal keeper in my estimation. He has little to do on Saturday but still almost dropped us in the s**t when he came out heading the ball. Never established himself as Newcastle's number one. So, I expect we're shopping for another first choice goalie in the summer. Probably going back to Robinson and Nigel Martyn since we has a top goal-keepr, and they can win matches for you.

Re: Jørgen Strand Larsen- Interest genuine
It’s a lot of money for a DCL Mk2 and I can’t see how we play them at the same time, they’ve both had their injury issues so is Farke worried about cover for DCL or a long term project ? There are rumours that we’re going to offer Piroe or Gnonto or even both as player swaps to sweeten the deal, the plot thickens……

Re: Jørgen Strand Larsen- Interest genuine
We definitely need to ship some players out Cussie. Piroe, Gnonto, Meslier, and Byram can all go as they're not being used and their value is deprecating. Quite a few others can go in the summer, if we stay up, then we can continue building an EPL quality squad.CUSSIE01 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 2:30 pm It’s a lot of money for a DCL Mk2 and I can’t see how we play them at the same time, they’ve both had their injury issues so is Farke worried about cover for DCL or a long term project ? I feel like Okafor, Perri and Longstaff are expensive mistakes.

I'd keep Piroe of the 4 mentioned, as long as we didn't need the cash.White Riot wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 2:44 pm We definitely need to ship some players out Cussie. I'm starting to think you might be right about Okafor, Perri and Longstaff, a lot of money tied up for little return so far.

I think they can if we play two up front, I don't think he's a project but he maybe starts next season with DCL as back up and with DCL's injury history would be a wise move. If Farke can bring himself to make subs on 60 then it's a like for like switch for DCL, he's on a good run atm but runs come to an end and we need options. Nmecha ain't the answer.CUSSIE01 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 2:30 pm It’s a lot of money for a DCL Mk2 and I can’t see how we play them at the same time, they’ve both had their injury issues so is Farke worried about cover for DCL or a long term project ? I like Piroe Dave, and think he's a technically sound player, plus he can finish and bring others into play.Carrick Dave wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 2:56 pm I'd keep Piroe of the 4 mentioned, as long as we didn't need the cash.
I'm starting to think you might be right about Okafor, Perri and Longstaff, a lot of money tied up for little return so far.
But we went for a big bruiser approach which doesn't suit him at all i.e. running around and winning headers.
Okafor has shown next to nothing, despite being given decent minutes.
I expected with the money we paid for Perri we were getting a top class, solid goalie. But, it doesn't seem like we have and we need to now go out and look again for another one in summer.
Longstaff for me is just a donkey, and the least skilled of our 5 DCMs, so why we would pay lots of money, and outbid ourselves when Newcastle pulled our leg at the first bid baffles me. The fact nobody else was interested in an experienced EPL player speaks volumes, but we paid over the odds for him.
I know you're not gonna get them all right, but that Longstaff signing reeked of desperation to me.

Re: Jørgen Strand Larsen- Interest genuine
I know Nmecha took that chance really well on Saturday, but forget about him for anything else. With those sloppy touches he just immediately reminded me of Jay Roy Grot. I really don't want us to be reduced to pinning our hopes on that standard of footballer again. brings back painful memories. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 3:05 pm I think they can if we play two up front, I don't think he's a project but he maybe starts next season with DCL as back up and with DCL's injury history would be a wise move. Re: Jørgen Strand Larsen- Interest genuine
Longstaff, Perri and Okafor is 45-50M of our summer signings... ATM they're all back up quality though Perri is still the best keeper at the club..
I understood the Perri/Okafor signings, the Longstaff signing never made any sense. I think Farke wanted prem experience rather than prem quality
Bijol looks to be a solid signing, Stach/Justin and DCL excellent ones, the latter surprising me somewhat but we've seen Paddy on this type of run so early days. Bornauw looks a cracking signing a quick CB with excellent instincts, have a feeling he maybe on his way though by the summer at the latest. Guds is the inverse of Firpo, we didn't improve the position but we might have equalled it for 10M

Re: Jørgen Strand Larsen- Interest genuine
Is also the idea that Jørgen Strand Larsen replaces DCL next season.
One of the things Ferguson was brilliant at was knowing when to sell.
Strikers he was very good, Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Mark Hughes, Van Nistelrooy were all still scoring goals fairly regularly when he let them go.
They were in that 29/30/31 age bracket.
But he let them go knowing they were probably past their peak or had younger players ready to come in.
Nemcha and DCL have done well this season for free agents.
But is this the peak? Both have had patchy careers and fitness records.
We saw it ourselves with Meslier, Harrison and Bamford how costly not knowing when to sell was.
So in theory we could thank Nmecha and DCL for their efforts in the summer and move them on.
May get £15-20mil for DCL and £10-12mil for Nmecha for example, pure profit.
Sounds a mad idea now but it's exactly what Ferguson used to do.

Disappointed with the larger money signings as well bar Bijol who looks better now played in his preferred system.White Riot wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 2:27 pm Yeah, I think DSL can bring others into play, but this guy may be better at that.

Perri looks iffy.
Longstaff never got that signing, a poor man's Jordan Henderson.
Okafor is just a very expensive Hadi Sacko.
Farke seems to rate Okafor for reasons I never got.
The whisper elsewhere on goalies is Farke and the recruitment team couldn't agree.
They both had a specific goalie in mind and neither would change.
So they settled oh Perri.
