So many errors from Longstaff.
To be fair to Longstaff he was likely rusty early on and then completely shattered late on. To go from a few minutes here and there to the full 120. Was surprised he had the energy to take the pen

I've pretended to support a team that's been crap for most of my life as part of a long term plan

No excuses for so many poor short passes & often losing possession.
Yes, Sean did well to go the whole 120 minutes, that's his game, though.

We rode our luck but it’s about time luck came our way. Home tie next please, and Farke to play the strongest team available to him.
Definitely, as our fringe players have shown today, they are not good enough against a vibrant/lively championship side.

It is but conisder how little he has played it was for me at least partly forgiveable that his body let him down with some passes. By contrast see how many Birmingham players were cramping up and likely they had been playing more regularly.
I think Longstaff has his part to play this season. Seems he is though the forum whipping boy now that Gruev had his good game and Okafor has scored a couple of goals.

Not a conclusion you can draw, too many changes made it tough for the lack of minutes fringe players...

1. Birmingham at home, used of winning..... First 11 who have played together constantly, know their role instantly..... Where they're supposed to be in transition.... All sharp.
2. Its against Leeds, at home...... They were up for it.... In a way that we would be for Chelsea etc.
We didn't look fluid.... Looked slow, conservative until we brought regulars on. Ampadu.... One substitution gave us a foothold.
The others gave us chances.
That said my god does it look like we have very little beyond the starting 11. Tanaka was poor..... Buanotte didn't know he was on the pitch..... Long staff fair play on the pen but very poor.... Piroe.... Rusty but great pen..... Justin (been brilliant in prem but looked at sea today for some of it).....
As for signings.... Birmingham's goalkeeper was outstanding distribution wise. What makes him a 3 million quid keeper and Perri a 16 million keeper? Perri couple of great saves but distribution was horrid again.
I honestly think we need to buy the best young players who really stand out in the championship to bulk up some positions..... Kahrer their cb was immense.
Just think how Bogle has done in the prem.... Up with the top rb's data wise. Buy the championships best (who fit the physical mould of prem) and we'd find similar I expect.... Much better league in total than ligue 1 or Italy for me apart from the top clubs.
Need depth to the squad if we survive.... Couple of high quality additions and move a couple on but need to add some depth too for me.

Explains why DF waits so long to make substitutions

Longstaff will come good.... I've no doubt..... Too many great performances for Newcastle not to.
He's not sharp, not match fit..... Not gonna lie wasn't great today but think he'd flourish with a run of games. Far better than Tanaka today for me.

Which, if he didn't do, would allow players minutes 25 minutes is a decent run out and you can effect the game, 10 or less and a player would struggle to imprint on the game and he's not getting any benefit. There are exceptions of course but in general that's the case
Fulham 2-1 ..heading through now
