Perri looks enormous in penalty shoot outs and three pen saves so far this cup run. Almost certain to start I think

Actually it might be a good tactic to start with Darlow and, if penalties, sub on Perri for them!

Funny thing is - at the time I don't think I thought of them as particularly 'dirty'
I suppose it was quite normal in those days.
Not surprising when you have players called 'bites your legs' and 'chopper'
Oh and not to forget - 'We were robbed at Villa Park!'
I was somewhere behind there!
Pal of mine was ejected from the ground before kick off for throwing a toilet roll into the Chelsea fans.
He ended up playing football in the car park all game

On the cup run we have used a mixture of bench players and regulars being introduced through the second half of the game.
What does Farke do now? Our best side would exclude the very players that got us in this position in the first place. What is the answer?
You can't drop Perri to the bench after his excellent play, not forgeting his penalty saves...
Chelsea have been underachieving in the last few games and it would be reassuring that Leroy would still be at the helm. Now he has been dismissed If a new manager comes in the players should react in a positive way. Hopefully after they play us. Chelsea are there for the taking imo, lets see what Farke goes with on Sunday

If Farke had persisted with Meslier, as he did for way too long, forget promotion. Playing at this level Meslier would be facing a lot more shots on goal and imo we'd be down already with him in the nets.weasel wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2026 9:59 am Messlier is out of contract so will be leaving on a free.
Darlow is out of contract so if he were to leave then there would be no fee but hopefully we give him a new contract - even then there would be no real transfer value to selling him due to his age.
Perri is the only one with transfer value. You would have to think he'd be sold if we were to bring in a new no.1 as like you say I can't see him being happy to stay as a number 2 or even number 3 - whereas Darlow, whilst disappointed, would presumably be mor elikely to accept being the back-up as presumably he wasn't offered a guaranteed starting position when we signed him previously as a championship club.
So for me I'd like to see us retain Darlow, sign a new long term no.1 and sell Perri. I do think there is a decent keeper in Perri but he needs games, he needs the experience. HIm 'learning on the job' with us though is just what we have been doing with Messlier for years and I don't think we could afford to do it. If Messlier had stayed in net would we have been promoted and if he had been in ent this season would we be in the relegation zone?
When Meslier first came into the team, during the Kiko Combat 18 rally. He had the excuse that he was young and still learning his trade. But, he never developrd and continually got the fundamentals wrong.
Perri is 28, so we should have been purchasing the finished article with the money we paid for him. Hardly like he's learning his trade, but he's still a better goalkeeper imo than Darlow.
But, it's a vital position, so maybe we spend big and go for Trafford, etc, to nail down the position long term. I also think we need a long term striker.
Handing out long term contracts to previously injury prone players like DCL, Nmecha and Bornauw is something we should avoid imo, as this has bit us in the past with Bamford and Forshaw, and Dan James looks to be heading in that direction.

If I had to find a premier league comp for Perri it would be Donnarumma

I’d be staggered if Perri doesn’t start, cannot see Farke changing the cup goalkeeper at this stage. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2026 10:13 am Perri looks enormous in penalty shoot outs and three pen saves so far this cup run. Almost certain to start I think

I wouldn't start Perri.
He's proven in the past to be accident prone, and with all the pressure of playing at Wembley, my feeling is that he might channel his inner Casilla....

Farke on the semi final
Looking ahead to Sunday afternoon’s Emirates FA Cup semi-final clash against Chelsea, Daniel Farke says he trusts his side to deliver a strong performance under Wembley’s iconic arch.
The Whites travel down to the capital after progressing on penalties against West Ham United, where two smart stops from goalkeeper Lucas Perri enabled Pascal Struijk to fire Leeds into the last four with the deciding spot kick.
Now, with attentions firmly fixed on the task in hand following a midweek draw against AFC Bournemouth, the manager said: “We will not do anything too special for this game and we will prepare like a normal Premier League game.
“I am also quite confident that many Leeds United supporters will be there in order to cheer us on and to support us. For that, we look forward to have a pretty special day.
“We are used to playing teams of this calibre. We stayed unbeaten against top sides during the season against Liverpool and Chelsea themselves. We know if we have a tough day and we deliver in a perfect way, we will always have a chance.
“We are playing this game in a good moment for us. We are in a good shape and also seven games unbeaten in all competitions and for that we travel with respect but not fearful.
“We travel in a good mood and are looking forward to play this game. We will stick to our DNA. We have to be brave, play on the front foot, be good in possession and threaten the opponent’s goal.
“We also have to be ready to suffer and defend well as a unit but also be ready to go through tricky moments during a game and if we show this, we have a chance.
“I trust my lads and I trust my group. The result is not a guarantee because we also face a strong opponent who has unbelievable quality and a very skilful squad.
“I am pretty sure that the lads will leave their hearts out on the pitch and like always be professional. We will prepare and try to have the best possible game plan.”

White - don't forget that the guy you responded to regards any player that Bielsa used to regularly pick as pretty well infallible. He still hasn't got over his immense trauma of Bielsa being shown the door - bless.White Riot wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2026 12:02 pm If Farke had persisted with Meslier, as he did for way too long, forget promotion. I wouldn't start Perri, as this is our biggest cup game since the 1996 league cup final. Darlow is an international keeper who has been playing in some big crunch games for Wales recently. Perri presumably has relatively little experience of big games.
I'm just nervous that the occasion might get to him and he reverts to what we saw earlier in the season when he was the first choice keeper. He was dropped because Farke lost confidence in him, and earlier FA Cup ties were probably regarded as free hits. Now there's much more at stake.
I just have this memory of Casilla in the vital Derby play off game and how the occasion got to him. IMO Darlow is less likely to do some kind of an embarrassing howler due to nerves. It's a difficult call for Farke though, because he will get a lot of flak if Perri is selected and then screws up in front of such a big audience.

Actually, Perri played in the Coupe de France final for Lyon. They lost 2-1.

Maybe when we decided to fork out so much for Perri we might have paused to consider why Hodgson didn't use him at all when he was on loan at Palace...White Riot wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2026 12:02 pm If Farke had persisted with Meslier, as he did for way too long, forget promotion. On the other hand its also possible that Perri may enjoy the big game atmosphere, play really well, and help us win the game. Why is it some fans are always looking at the negative aspect
Awful way to view your team if you cant trust them in games.
