Re: Cricket 2026
So I guess Hants lose Sonny Baker to the England "system" now. Probably why he didn't play last week
Liam Dawson retires which is a huge loss, don't think we have another spinner.. Just checked and we don't atm

Saw that about Baker, Rew, Gay and Robinson. You think Sonny is ready? Wait what? Dawson has retired? From all cricket? The Subhuman wrote: ↑Thu May 14, 2026 9:52 am So I guess Hants lose Sonny Baker to the England "system" now. Probably why he didn't play last week

I don't think Sonny will play the first test tbf, is he ready? Doubtful but he has a lot of potential

Just had a good look through our "Squad" There isn't another spinner but Organ is a batsman that can bowl a bit of off break...

The good news is that surprisingly they have had the guts to drop Crawley.

Seemed strange timing to me re: Dawson but just read the BBC article and everything makes sense. Never knew he scored so many runs for Hants. A great servant. His knock against Yorkshire in the one day semi last year killed us.

Legend for us tbf, I'm wondering if we try to find a spinner or not. Huge disadvantage every game if we don't. But no clue who's availablewilsdenwhite wrote: ↑Thu May 14, 2026 10:28 am Seemed strange timing to me re: Dawson but just read the BBC article and everything makes sense. Re: Cricket 2026
Yes not having a specialist spinner is just asking for trouble. Big gaps in the CC after this week so should give you plenty of time to get a deal done. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Thu May 14, 2026 11:07 am Legend for us tbf, I'm wondering if we try to find a spinner or not. Re: Cricket 2026
Starting tomorrow:
Essex v Leicestershire
Hampshire v Notts
Somerset v Sussex
Warwickshire v Glamorgan
Yorkshire v Surrey
Yorkshire have Root and Brook available before they go off with England for the summer. Richardson's final game for us too if selected. Surrey and particularly Dom Sibley seem to be able to bat until the cows come home lately so it might prove a big ask to take 20 Surrey wickets if Yorkshire find themselves batting first. Another hammering would signal serious inadequacies that would have to be addressed during the upcoming break. The loss against Warwickshire was our second heaviest defeat by runs in our history.

When you say ‘upcoming break’, does the season stop for a while?.wilsdenwhite wrote: ↑Thu May 14, 2026 2:26 pm Starting tomorrow:

Vitality blast (T20) starts next week
Metro Bank (50 overs) starts in July I think

Re: Cricket 2026
Yes T20 starts next week. There are two CC games in the middle of the blast scheduled for June 12th and 19th. Then they break again for the Metro One Day Cup which runs alongside that Hundred thing. It's virtually 2 months after the CC June 19th game until the resumption of the CC against Hampshire on Aug 20 according to the fixture list.
England V New Zealand and England v Pakistan tests in amongst it all if that interests you but I doubt we will see Root or Brook again as the Pakistan series coincides with the last block of CC fixtures.

Re: Cricket 2026
Lost the toss again and have been put. Potgeiter makes his debut for us. The South African all rounder ..apparently. Middleton comes in and Prest moves down to his better position of 5. First game for Felix Organ, part time spinner but having a batsman at 8 is interesting
Nick Gubbins
Toby Albert
Fletcha Middleton
Jake Lehmann
Tom Prest
Ben Brown (c), Captain (wk), Wicket Keeper
Delano Potgieter
Felix Organ
Kyle Abbott
Brad Wheal
Sonny Baker

Re: Cricket 2026
Better team with Root, Brook & Richardson in the line-up.
Bairstow still captain
Revis & Luxton out cheaply again.
44 for 2
Need a couple of big ininings from the likes of Lyth, Root & Brook.
