West Stand Redevelopment

I understand the sentiments but this is clearly long overdue.
I, myself have never watched a game from the West stand, it was always the kop for me apart from the last few when it was the East stand.

Kop for me in my teens aged 15 plus. Up the back, practically in the roof, behind the railings standing behind the kop regulars. I'm sure that 64 and OB and possibly heccy were up there as well, same time. Great times. Then I took my Mum into the kop in my 20's. All was well until a Derby County game where Mum felt faint with all the crowding. She was offered whisky (which she declined) by our lovely surrounding fans but that was the end of the kop for us. The West stand beckoned. Much more civilised for my 45 year old Mum!....and for me to be honest!

Yes I was there... Started in the middle of the kop against a concrete barrier, but got pissed off with being crushed, so went to the back and started the surge...
then moved to the south stand

The kop had no roof when I attended my first match in '64. We use to arrive to ER about 11.30am to watch the Juniors play on Fullerton Park situated behind the West Stand on some matchdays. Always there at 12.30 to queue waiting for thr turnstiles to open at 1pm, so we could stand on a concrete block behind the crush barriers. The kop remained open to the weather elements until 1968 when the terracing was completely replaced and officially opened as a new, roofed structure.

Former MOT members Gandi & Guildford White used to stand in the kop during the adolescent years.

My long term pal (the original White Riot) is also at the end of one row below & adjacent me.

You'll still find me on the end of row Q in N10 of the kop.

I’ve only once sat in the West Stand, against Brentford this year. I was struck behind the dugout with a view second to everyone else, and queued with a bursting bladder (cheers Cussie) for the one toilet for the entire section, same door out as in. Knock the fecker down, no tears from me.

I’ve been blamed for a lot of things over the years but getting blamed for bursting your bladder is taking the pi55.

Is that the Liverpool game that someone set fire to a bus behind the Lowfields Stand?
I was in the kop that day, there was black smoke spewing into the air near the NE Corner

We are going back to 1977 Finn, I’d have been 6 years old so my memory isn’t great on it.

That said, I don’t recall anything like that happening.

....on a side note I just went into the utility room to put something away (all my Leeds Leeds Utd photos and memorabilia is on the walls) and I caught the photo of my Mum, my cousin , me and sniffer Clarke, taken in the banquet suite....just having watched it start to being dismantled. Strange feeling.....

I was nearly ten (In Dec) but you couldn’t miss it.
Might have been ‘78 then.

Yeah, my sister and I had our photos taken in the banqueting suite with the Division One championship trophy after we’d won the title in 1992.

Demolition of the Banqueting Suite continues today. It was a busy scene when I drove past this afternoon. Wagon after wagon taking away rubble and steel. I think this might be down in another week to 10 days
