2026 MOT Tour de France Contest:

Image

There are (5) Pre-race prediction categories as well as an ongoing, daily stage winner portion, and a "Pick the Podium" portion (Also done pre-race).
The (5) Pre-race categories are:

General classification -Yellow Jersey (Overall Winner)- 100 points
Mountains classification- Polka Dot Jersey (King of the Mountains)- 75 points
Points classification- Green Jersey (Points Champion)- 75 points
Young rider classification- White Jersey (Best Young Rider)- 50 points *Age Cutoff: 25 years old (must not be older than 25 on Jan 1st of the current year)
Team classification- the team classification is calculated by adding the times of the three best riders of each team per stage; time bonuses and penalties are ignored. In a team time trial, the team gets the time of the fifth rider of that team to cross the finish, or the last rider if there are fewer than five left for the team. If a team has fewer than three cyclists remaining, it is removed from this classification.
Pick the top 3 teams. 1st- 50 points, 2nd- 30 points, 3rd- 20 points

Daily Stage Winner (21): - 10 points per stage win
Pretty straight forward here. Select your stage winner each day before the start of the stage. *Stage 1 is a team time trial, so you will be selecting a team, not an individual rider.*

"Pick the Podium"
Select 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. 1st- 50 points, 2nd- 30 points, 3rd- 20 points. *BONUS* If podium picks are all correct, a 50 point bonus is awarded.

After considering a few different ideas, this is what I've landed on. Please bear in mind this is very much a trial run/work in progress. I am planning to have a daily update/ stage preview each day. I'll also try to post the betting odds for the daily stages so there is a general idea of how the riders are favored for each stage. We shall see how this goes. Please feel free to ask any questions or let me know of any suggestions you have!

Hi Evan. Can i ask some questions if that is ok?

1. Is the pick the podium for the race as a whole rather than for each stage?

2. If so does that mean if you pick the overall winner you get 100 for General Classification plus 50 in pick the podium?

3. Do you pick the podium by finishing position 1 to 3 or just select 3 to finish on the podium? If so would you only get points if they finished in the position you said?

For the whole race
2. If so does that mean if you pick the overall winner you get 100 for General Classification plus 50 in pick the podium?
Correct
3. Do you pick the podium by finishing position 1 to 3 or just select 3 to finish on the podium? If so would you only get points if they finished in the position you said?
You select 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, in order. So let’s say you picked Pogacar for 1st Vingegaard for 2nd and Almeida for 3rd and it finishes Almeida 1st, Pogacar 2nd, Vingegaard 3rd, you would be awarded no points. But if that was the correct order you’d get 150 points (50 for getting 1st correct, 30 for getting 2nd correct, and 20 for getting 3rd correct, and then the Bonus 50 for getting all 3 correct exactly
Probably a bit redundant having pick the yellow jersey and awarding points to the winner as part of the podium, but I suppose it’s also the biggest part of it after all. Hope that clears things up a bit. Please feel to reach back out for any questions!

Hey Clacton- assuming you want UAE, Visma, Redbull as your team classification picks? (different than podium) And if so- you’d still need to enter your individual podium picks for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Re: 2026 Tour de France Competition: STAGE 1 "Grand Depart" : Barcelona - Barcelona

Post by Evan R »

@all-
I updated the "Team Classification" scoring section in case there was any confusion there. I realized the initial explanation may have been a bit vague.
"The team classification is calculated by adding the times of the three best riders of each team per stage; time bonuses and penalties are ignored. In a team time trial, the team gets the time of the fifth rider of that team to cross the finish, or the last rider if there are fewer than five left for the team. If a team has fewer than three cyclists remaining, it is removed from this classification."

Just like with the podium picks, you have to get the team in the correct position (1st, 2nd, 3rd) to recieve points. Unlike the podium picks, no bonus for getting all three correct.

I'm not close enough to it these days since some w**ker decided to ditch Eurosport.
I shall be watching the channel 5 highlights every night though.

No worries, Chilli. Will try to keep the thread active with general discussion as well. Hopefully we are in for a good Tour this year!

I haven't finished today's stage yet, so will update scoring later. Wanted to get Stage 2 preview out, though.

Stage 2: Tarragona - Barcelona
Date: July 5, 2026
Distance: 168.5km
Start time: 13:45 CET
Finish time: 17:36 CET

Stage 2 Odds (Only listed up to 300/1 to save space here. If you are feeling really bold, feel free to go for an even longer shot!) Just as a reminder- the odds have no bearing whatsoever for our contest. A win is 10 points regardless. Just posting to give everyone a general sense of the market for each stage.

Fair play and well done for taking the time and effort to post up this Comp, Evan.

I must confess, however, I was completely bamboozled with the rules/requirements, hence my non participation.

Experience suggests that the Comps that tend to get more engagement on the site are those which are simple and require little effort......most people are inherently lazy, and the more effort required the less the participation.

Well done to those who could get their heads around the rules/requirements and did take part though
