It's been reported by the New York Times and multiple other media sources the White House directly contacted Gianni Infantino and urged him to look at the red card. . . . . .

If it was normal I'd have no issue with Balogun having the red card taken away.

But it's not, same as the highly marketable and money drawing Ronaldo having his taken away.

I thought the decision was harsh. Only because I don't think it was an intentional foul. Or even that Balogun knew anything about it. For me it was just two players going hard. But I was happy to live with the Red Card because it could have been a really bad injury. Players need to be held responsible for dangerous play. And that's just the way it goes. So I am surprised that it has been overturned.

It doesnt smell right at all. Its very suspicious and Belgium should be able to appeal, but Im willing to bet they wont get the chance.

He didn't deserve the red card, I think we all agree with that.

But in the FIFA rules 2 things.

1) you can't appeal a red card, only the amount of games a player misses.

2) the player must miss atleast 1 game, his ban was 1 game so in the fifa rule book there shouldn't be an option

Unfair on the player? Absolutely.

But you can't just go changing the rules mid tournament.

No the fairest result did not ensue. The fairest result is to uphold the rules. A red card is a red card.
The player should not be available for the next game.
The only whining going on is the US team. They shouldve got on with it like Croatia had to accept the onfield decisions too.
But of course FIFA didnt get a call from the white house about Croatia's issue.
