Good Morning. It's Tuesday 14th July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...
Leeds set to miss out on Van Oevelen as search for a new number one goes on
Leeds had been credited with interest in FC Volendam's Kayne van Oevelen as one option to address a goalkeeping department stripped almost bare this summer. The towering Dutchman, only 22 but already the subject of admiring reports after 32 Eredivisie appearances last season, looked a sensible squad addition given Volendam's relegation and a fee in the two to three million euro range that represented no great outlay for a Premier League club. That interest now looks set to come to nothing. Valencia are reported to have reached an in-principle agreement with Van Oevelen on personal terms, with a five year contract through to 2031 in place pending a fee being settled with Volendam. It is worth noting he would arrive there as competition for Stole Dimitrievski rather than a guaranteed starter, but the move still appears to have turned his head ahead of anything on offer from Elland Road.
The bigger picture is that our search for a new number one goes on regardless. Illan Meslier has already left for Arsenal and Karl Darlow looks set to follow him out of the building to Manchester United, while Lucas Perri's future continues to be linked with a move to Torino. Alex Cairns signing a new contract offers some short term cover, focus remains Zion Suzuki, with Parma reportedly holding out for around thirty million euros and Aston Villa and Newcastle also credited with interest, while Nick Pope continues to be mentioned as a cheaper alternative.
Missing out on Van Oevelen will not derail the summer, but it is another reminder of how little time is left to get a senior goalkeeper through the door.

Leeds United edge closer to Bosnian centre‑back Tarik Muharemović
Leeds United could be on the brink of a major defensive acquisition as they lead the race for Bosnian international Tarik Muharemović, according to renowned Italian transfer guru Luca Cerchione. The Whites are currently ahead of fellow suitors Sunderland and Bournemouth, and the club is expected to table its first official offer for the 23‑year‑old Sassuolo defender later today. It is believed that Newcastle Utd, who once led the race for his signature, have now cast their search further afield.Muharemović, who has exploded onto the scene with a series of commanding performances in Serie A and a solid display at the 2026 World Cup, is viewed as the ideal tactical replacement for Pascal Struijk. “Tarik brings exactly what we need,” said a source close to the club. “He’s a left‑sided, left‑footed defender who can dominate the aerial duels and, crucially, he’s comfortable in possession. His 87 % pass‑completion rate last season shows he can orchestrate attacks from deep, something that’s central to Farke’s philosophy.”
A left‑footed centre‑back is high up on Leeds most wanted list, especially if Daniel Farke persists in playing five at the back. Standing at 6-foot-4, Muharemović is exceptionally strong in the air, winning roughly 64% to 67% of his aerial duels. His elite ball‑playing proficiency, evident in his ability to step out of defence, launch quick counters and bypass the midfield, fits perfectly with Farke's possession‑heavy tactics. He reads the game effectively, ranking among the top Serie A defenders for defensive contributions.
