Seems to be confusing him, not us ..Sean_Nile wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2026 1:04 pm Pellegrino Matarazzo the manager of Real Sociedad is an American, a poor man's Jesse Marsch. Need we say more.
Does Brandt want to work under another Ted Lasso and try to understand gobbledygook aphorisms or communicate with a fellow German or play in the same team with Anton?

Point is that you're suggesting he's more likely to be a flop than a success because you don't particularly fancy him, while I believe he's most likely going to be very successful at Leeds if he comes in.The Subhuman wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2026 1:34 pm Point being we got a proven in England player, Swansea took the risk
There are as many European player successes in the PL as failures, and this lad has seen and done it at the highest level.

It's the question of what it is that motivates a player who has been there, done that (maybe not quite got the T shirt!) at age 30 and what he wants to get out of the remainder of his career balanced against how much he wants to put in. If he comes here hopefully it'll be for the right reasons.Sean_Nile wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2026 1:04 pm Pellegrino Matarazzo the manager of Real Sociedad is an American, a poor man's Jesse Marsch. Personally I think the chances of him coming are no more than 20% at the mo based on nothing more than gut instinct.

I think you're probably right, as the ongoing silence does not bode well.PhoenixUnited wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2026 3:05 pm It's the question of what it is that motivates a player who has been there, done that (maybe not quite got the T shirt!) at age 30 and what he wants to get out of the remainder of his career balanced against how much he wants to put in. Shame really, I think he's the type of player we need to complete the picture and elevate the standard for 2-3 seasons.

It would be a bit of a disappointment if we didn't get Brandt, but, we have got Muharemovic, Wilson and Trafford
so that's pretty good going so far and makes us stronger than last season. If we also got this guy Espi, and somehow managed to get Brandt or Charles then we would go into this new season with a much more positive attitude than last season at the same point.

He's obvs assessing his options on what will be the last big deal of his career, so is taking his time. He has no affiliation to us, or any of thr other teams that maybe interested so isn't rushing. I hope we have given him a deadline so we can look at other options though.

Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wednesday 29th July) - Leeds leading race for Julian Brandt
Yeah like you say this is probably his last big deal so quite rightly he wants to make the best decision. If you buy a house you don't necessarily put an offer in on the first house you view. You might really like it but chances are you will look at a few others before putting your offer in for the first house. Brandt is simply doing that, he might be really like us, may be really keen, but knows he can bide his time and see what other opportunities arise.MightyWhites wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2026 4:40 pm He's obvs assessing his options on what will be the last big deal of his career, so is taking his time. My feeling is that we okay about playing the waiting game and that if he doesn't come I don't think we will have somebody else in mind. I think it is a case of we'll get him if we can but if we don't then we are happy with what we have. With it being a free signing it isn't like it impacts any other potential deals we want to make, perhaps it is more likely that if we sign him then we look to sell one of Gnonto, Aaronsen or Tanaka, but if we don't sign him then we keep what we have.

How do you know? We may have put an offer in but us and the selling club are keeping it confidential - after all if the player has a release clause it isn't like the selling club needs to leak the news of us bidding so as to drive the price us (i.e. they don't need to do what Southampton did in relation to Shea Charles).Victor_Notts-17 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2026 4:56 pm The whole world and his dog has known this information for ever!!!

It could also be that we have a deal in place but we want to sell someone first before we buy. A bit like the reverse of the Perri situation in that we won't sell him or loan him until Trafford (and possibly a back up) is in the building.
