Re: Julian Brandt - Signed for Ajax
He's heading towards the twilight days of his career, so I'd have preferred a younger 10 anyway, but now we'll have to pay for that.SG90 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 01, 2026 8:43 am That's a shame. It would've been good to get a playmaker on a free, but I feel we're going to have to spend £30m now. Makes wasting £30m on Charles to sit on the bench look even more dumb.
Ajax might not be at their peak, but they're a massive club and a world renowned name, so will always be a pull. There seems to be a lot of Premier League arrogance on here tbh. Good luck to Ajax, hope they can win the Conference League.
Brandt may be seeking a quicker route to some trophies than we currently can offer. Depends on where he and his family feel they will be more happy. Ajax still have a massive pull world wide, dating back to the days of Cruyff and co and that golden era of Dutch total football. So money isn't always the biggest attraction as most of these guys are already millionaires.
We saw with CDK and RDP, that they spurned English football and the gravy train to go to Italy and Spain and play for clubs that have a rich tradition globally. As much as the EPL is very popular here in BG, especially Liverpool, there are still lots of people here that I know who support Ajax, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona, etc, and a lot of this is down to their parents supporting these clubs in the good old days before money became king.
