Stats & Polls What is our transfer priority? - Poll of the Day

Post by YorkshireSquare »

Assuming we get the Trafford deal over the line, the rumour is today, what is our next transfer priority? Brandt is out of the picture and it looks as though Charles is off to Fulham, so where do we need to concentrate on as a priority.

Gabi's injury highlights a lack of cover at left back, do we need to strengthen the back line further? The courting of Brandt suggests we are looking for a No.10 this season, is this still a priority or with the interest in Paixão raised again are we concentrating out wide? Pre-season also highlighted the importance of DCL to our game and the lack of like for like cover.

So, what is our priority?

Ideally a quality, proven 10 and similar for the strikers position. Do think all we need is that elusive 10 and we can be a force to be reckoned with, providing no more of our starters leave in the window.

Isn't that Wilson?

Most seem to think he will be featuring on the right in Aaronson's role. If it stays like this and Wilson is used more centrally so be it but that still leaves us short on an upgrade of Aaronson.

Think it depends on if we start a 5

GK
5 defenders
3 centre mids

leaves room for just 2 forward players - when we used that formation last season Okafor played a left sided 10 just off DCL, or Aaronson ditto but drifted left and right... One assumes it's Wilson this season.

For us to play a pair of inverted wingers (Wilson/Okafor) we'd have to go to a 4 because a two man centre midfield will get over run in the prem...

Striker.

We carry no attacking threat when DCL isn’t on the pitch.

No clue who we should go for next. We have a very decent starting 11 and good solid back ups, assuming injury free, which we're not right now

Need for LWB cover is needed. DMF cover/Gruev upgrade. Striker if possible.

Then replacing anyone leaving

My targets would be young high ceiling players at any position,

Why is wing a choice? We do not need a winger! Inside men that can play wide maybe but we need a 10 more. Maybe you meant whinger? Plenty of them on here ;-) Did you mean Goalkeeper? I'd have voted GK. Not voted...

Striker without any doubt.

We need to able to mix our first XI between Calvert-Lewin & a new No.9.

Went midfield as it's the closest match.

We need a creative 10 type.

We create bugger all in open play much of the time.

Went striker for the reasons others have offered up. Followed by a 10, but maybe that's Wilson depending on how Farke plans to use him?

I went defence as we need one more left footed defender desperately, preferably a wing back

Just read that Farke bought Wilson to fit more that one role: https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/f ... am-8842854

Did not vote: unless we get a #10, a striker signing is moot...

For me I think any additional signings would be good but none a particular priority - more a bit of a luxury.

If we got another left back, are we going to be able to buy someone that is better than JJ but happy to sit on the bench?

Similarly if we bought a striker would that striker be starting ahead of DCL or competing for a back up spot with Nmecha and Piroe?

So for me (as long as JT officially signs) I am fine with what we have but priority would be a back up keeper that is better than Cairns - but that ain't a fricking option. Substandard poll unfortunately for me and we'd have been better off waiting for Maurice (PJM) to do a proper one.
