Re: Summer transfer gossip and squad discussion
No matter who we buy or what the club do: some people are never happy! There's one poster on here: I won't mention his name because I can't stand him but I have never seen him post anything positive: not once. Some people just love misery! If all you wanna do is moan and complain: go down the bingo with all the other moaners. I choose to be positive...

Re: Summer transfer gossip and squad discussion
January is a tough window and comes with an extra premium more often than not. But I also think we have enough to safely navigate this season if we cannot get our targets. No point in spending money for bums on seats.weasel wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2026 1:40 pm I don't feel we need another marquee signing at present.
Back-up keeper - though if we don't get one and simply retain Perri then hopefully it wouldn't be too disastrous if Trafford got injured. Though we would be hugely weakened would a different back-up keeper be that mush better than Perri?
Back up left sided defender but am not too fussed as think we have options there especially with how well Gnonto and Dan James have done as wing backs in recent weeks.
Back up striker but who knows how good the young North Macedonian we just signed is? Is he back up to DCL and Nmecha, would we be tempted to play Okafor as a striker if needed?
So for me if the window slams shut and we haven't brought anyone else in I am fairly relaxed about it. Obviously huge injury problems can happen but barring that we should have the squad to cope with a regular amount of injuries. We then have money in the bank for January if we do have a real need (i.e. if DCL was out for the rest of the season).

Re: Summer transfer gossip and squad discussion
It is but equally we would know what position we needed to strengthen and be in a position to do it. So rather than say spending £30m on 3 back-ups at £10m each now we go with what we have and then if say DCL is out for the season we have £30m left to target getting a striker.
At present we have a nearly injury free squad. Gruev is nearly back but there is no rush to get him involved until he is completely ready. Same story with Gnonto who can be eases back but then gives us additional cover as a winger/support striker and fullback (and he has also played as a striker but might be a tricky one going from DCL's height to Gnonto's). We will also have GG back at some point.
For me really the only concern is the back-up keeper situation but it does seem like we will keep Perri unless we get a decent alternative - and the club seems happy to spend a reasonable amount (if the £5m rumours were true) so we should be able to get someone.

Assuming that season ending injury doesn’t occur in two weeks time, right? So we don’t have to go 5 months without a recognised striker?weasel wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2026 10:39 am It is but equally we would know what position we needed to strengthen and be in a position to do it. Option to buy translation: We can borrow him for a year, sort out something else next season

But by the same logic then any player can get injured so do we buy another 10 players just in case?Aussieleeds wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2026 10:52 am Assuming that season ending injury doesn’t occur in two weeks time, right? So we don’t have to go 5 months without a recognised striker?
If DCL were to get injured ina couple of weeks time, and we'd not bought anyone, then we make do with Nmecha and alter how we play to some degree. It shouldn't be that we suddenly go into freefall.

Still think the priority has to be some creativity.
We create pretty much bugger all in open plan.
A striker would be nice as DCL is hardly prolific and finishing is probably his weakest area but irrelevant if you aren't creating chances.
That being said given JP left we are a striker short.
Much work to do

Yeah he is hopeless with headers both offensively and defensively. Those goal line clearances are just lucky and if he scores with a header it is from a flick on... granted he has to get to the ball and I don't see how that can happen given his poor positional sense, and it is a mistake Farke let's him take penalties, more luck than judgement when he scores. 15 goals in a season makes him worse than Bamford who got 17.Cjay wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2026 1:11 pm Still think the priority has to be some creativity.

Re: Summer transfer gossip and squad discussion
I wouldn't read too much into the lack of creativity in the first Forest match. Forest set up with a very defensive line-up and it was a bit of an attritional match. The 2nd match showed that we can be more dangerous albeit it also leaves us a bit more open defensively. You would have hoped that if DCL had played from the start in the cup match that he would have got on the end of a couple of Dan James's crosses - and likely he would have scored on Saturday too but Harry Wilson got there first and was offside - DCL had made a great run, was onside, and would have had a tap in.Cjay wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2026 1:11 pm Still think the priority has to be some creativity.

In general though we don't create much from open play.weasel wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2026 1:41 pm I wouldn't read too much into the lack of creativity in the first Forest match. Was the same last season.
Mainly set pieces.
If that ever stopped being effective think we'd really struggle.
