Sam Byram in his debut year as a youngster. Was absolutely phenomenal. Such a shame he was overplayed and the injuries that then followed.

Taking overall contribution it has to be Kelly, with Ayling pushing a close second

Love Berardi but his best work for us was at centre back... Has to be Ayling, a tallismanic player under Bielsa

Is the Other vote Paul Connolly
Or does the voter think Mel Sterland or Paul Reaney played for Leeds in the last twenty years.

Not sure how Kelly counts.. 16 games in the last 20 years and those in the championship... and he was fading badly. I guess technically he creeps into the last 20 but 06/07 was his last season and not his best season..
We must have had, and still have, real s**t for a 16 game Championship Gary Kelly to win this poll..

Re: Best Right-Back over the last 20 years - Poll of the Day (25th Sept)
I think the criteria needs to be set otherwise it is farcical. I don't care how players have done at other clubs I am judging them on how they did for us at whatever point they played for us in the last 20 years. As such Kelly's best days were behind him.
Think the criteria needs to be clarified otherwise when it comes to centrbacks are we voting for wonky lipped drug test avoider Rio Ferdinand based on the fact he played for us prior to 20 years ago but was playing for Man U in the last 20 years.

I almost omitted Gary Kelly for that reason mate. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2026 9:31 am Not sure how Kelly counts.. 16 games in the last 20 years and those in the championship... and he was fading badly. Then the parameters of the poll need proper guidelines, GK is head and shoulders above anyone on that list for the reasons I stated, I know it's only a bit of fun but some posters seem to want to move the goalposts according to their beliefs.

Re: Best Right-Back over the last 20 years - Poll of the Day (25th Sept)
Kelly was the best of the lot as a career player at Leeds, but based on the dates that form the last 20 years and form within that, has to be Ayling I think. Perhaps not on overall talent, but for actual enjoyment to watch and as someone else said the talismanic effect defiitely Also scored some thunderb4stards too, Notable mentions to Byram, Berardi, and Bogle- the latter of which has to be top 3.

In his day Gary Kelly but loved Luke, what a player and he must have been a joy to have in the dressing room, people like Ayling bring so much more to a club other than what they can do on the pitch. Met him once & he was a gentleman & who can forget the Ayling Flop. Luke for me

Faaip has a point in the Ayling and Kelly debate.
Kelly better than Ayling but not in the last twenty years.
