Have to agree, bechio was awesome sat, and gives his all, he may not be a football god, but he works his socks off and deserves our respect

This is getting out of hand now - works really hard and scored an absolute belter in a 5 - 10 minute spell when he looked almost unplayable. Rest of the game he was exactly the same as ever. If you think he's normally awesome then he was on Saturday. If you think he spends too much time on his behind, lacks pace and movement and seldom wins a hoofed header etc then that was what he was on Saturday. Point is for 80 minutes or so he was the same old Becchio. If you like the same old Becchio you got your money's worth. You pays your money . . . .

Exactly who would you play instead of Becchio then? For me he is a Heskey type player who may not score loads but is usually involved in every goal we score. He will take a lot of abuse but the team is weaker without him.

You texted me during the game saying how poor Becchio was, all our attacking idea's were breaking down very tamely, with very little movement off the ball after the first 20 minutes of the game where we started well.
Then for 10 minutes Becchio was on fire, he was like Messi the goal was a stunning one an excellent volley of the highest calibre & yes he was unlucky not to get a second with a superb effort. Becchio did win it for us with that goal, a game that could of gone either way which should never been the case bearing in mind how dominant we were early on, 1-0 up & playing a poor Boro' side.
After that 10 minute spell, Becchio won no headers, his first touch & movement was poor for 80 minutes but our fans will tell you he was immense, i doubt that description would have applied had he not scored that stunning goal

There are a lot of the great players who were nowhere to be seen during a game, but a few minutes of magic could turn a game. That's why you don't leave such a player out. Was Bergkamp a rubbish player? No! However, he would spend 85 minutes doing sod all contributing to the team, but then a moments magic from him would change a game. In modern football, managers take a gamble with these sorts of players in the hope that a moment of magic from them will pay off! Did it pay off Saturday? Course it did!

Good point craig, happened with our own Jermaine in several games, with Beckford you were guaranteed 30 goals a season during our L1 campaign.

As for Becchio those 10 minutes haven't been happening enough this season, for all his endeavour he has been continually out-muscled & out-fought by the tougher opposition.
I'll be surprised if he hits two shots as sweet as those on Saturday again, he'll score a few more goals but Becchio will never be a prolific goalscorer

OK agreed. He isn't an out-and-out goalscorer, but some of his hold-up and link-up play is very good. I don't doubt he will score a few more this season, however, I believe he will set up far more! I think Becchio is a confidence player and am hoping that the Boro game will be a stepping stone to a better season.

I really don't understand the stick that Becchio is getting. Kilkenny is so talented but lazy, Howson can take a running jump, Naylor is slow and past it, BJ has been inconsistent! One thing I always see from Becchio is effort. If the effort is good enough it will lead to pulling something off. With a lot of the other squad members I see lack of effort and dropped heads. One thing I never see from Luciano! I think if we are picking on holes in the squad we should look in many places before looking at Becchio!!
