This is the kind of game I can see us slipping up on. After a big game against Norwich on saturday I hope some players wont be tired :?

Revenge will be ours. Barnsley to face a serious backlash.

5-0 Leeds. Gradel, Snodgrass, Becchio, Somma, Paynter.

I have the same feeling. It's the kind of game you wish Grayson had a 'game changer' to bring into the team, to rest tired legs and freshen the mix up. Why Nunez isn't even making the bench escapes me... we're flying by the seat of our pants in terms of midfield cover.

However the reminder of the embarrassing result last time against Barnsley should, I hope, give us the spur we need to do the job.

You would drop our only defensive cover in midfield Shieldsy, BJ is not at all a stylish player but he has done the messy/break up play stuff really well during our one defeat in 17 or is it 18 games

Have to say Killa & Howson have always done well together in a 4-4-2 formation though i wouldn't drop BJ until we find someone better :!:

Play 4-4-2 Howson will naturally drop a little deeper, he tracks back well. Killa has done the dirty work when required and I think he offers a little bit more than Johnson.

I just think if we are going to try the 4-4-2 Barnsley is porbably the team to do it against.

I agree with 1964. Johnson gives our shaky defence a degree of protection.
I'd like to see us drop Kilkenny for Watt. Watt showed in the first leg against Arsenal that he can sit deep, close down, win the ball, and either pass it or run with it. Second leg he was told to play further forward and Howson played deeper. They had all the possession.
The five-man midfield frees Howson to get forward more where he's more effective.

See I'm not convinced it is our defence that is shakey, I think it our 5 man midfield playing high up the pitch that is shakey.

I do see your point Shields, but we have more possession when we play five in midfield, so it figures that the opposition have the ball less to be able to attack us. Johnson also does a lot of closing down protecting the defence no matter how far forward we get to push.
I reckon a five man mdfield should have two central players that can tackle. SG keeps playing Johnson and Killkenny. Killkenny rarely tackles. So if Howson is the key central player for linking the play when we go forward, Kilkenny is the wrong player to partner Johnson.
Hope that makes sense to you. :)

How on earth is Barnsley a CAT A match and Norwich a CAT B?

Is it just the locality of the opposition?

Interesting Dilemma for Larry.

Do we go for it, by playing 4 4 2 - Somma deserves a start for sure but then would mean sacrificing JH is his best role ?!

I think, while its tough on the South African, we should stick with 4 5 1 and allow Howson to support Becchio as he has done so well .

I really dont understand it! Weekday fixtures are generally much quieter and empty seats are everywhere, why doesnt he use his noggin and lower ticket prices to get a much better attendance for mid-week games!
