If Smith is good enough and fit enough it would be daft to put the past before a good signing that could take the club forward. If you doubt whether Smith has Leeds United at heart let's see how he wears the shirt before judging him.

And if Rio scored for England I'd be off my seat as much as for any player (until Howson scores for England that is)

I'd prefer not to bother with exPlayers I have no issue with Smith coming back if he can contribute as Batty did when he returned, I have serious doubts about his fitness how many games has he averaged per season over the last 5 years 20 per season is just not good enough.

Even if he takes a haircut on his wages he will be the top earner, I would expect he could play every game for that. If he was brought in a pay for play deal even as the highest earner I would have no issue with that or the same for any exPlayer with the exception of that Aussie (I cannot say his name he's dead to me & should be obliterated from LUFC history IMO) with a history of serious injuries e.g. Woodgate.

Of the current crop of exPlayers available or potentially available I'd have Bowyer as my 1st choice (even with his baggage) as he always did it on the pitch for us or any team and would address a serious deficiency we have had for 3 seasons, 2nd would be Robbie Keane wrongly sold was better than Fowler any day of the weak didn't want to leave and would do a job for us.
