If I remember right - I thought we played quite well against Derby - certainly better than we did today.

Nope - and you were suicidal after...Derby tore us a bigger new asshole than Soton today.

I was not cos I remember driving home after the game and not feeling too down because I thought we played just as well as Derby and were unlucky to lose.

Today, we thoroughly deserved to get beaten 3-1 at least.

I knew the game was done for when players were getting frustrated and making poor tackles. Although it was only one game, Michael Brown did poorly. To me he played like a brute simply tackling guys instead of playing the ball. Adam Clayton played very solid.
And a 4-4-1-1? What the hell was Simon thinking? McCormack was up top alone and the only thing we tried to do was lob balls over the back line and make haphazard runs forward which always ended in nothing. Our best chance with Billy (I still don't see why he's still with us) was poor because he opened himself up too soon clearly showing he was going far post.
Connolly and O'Dea seemed fine but our Center Backs were getting bruised all day

EDIT: And having Jonny at Attacking Midfielder isn't my ideal thing. For Bradford if Simon plans on throwing out a full strength squad, we should put Nunez at Attacking midfielder (assuming SG plays the 4-4-1-1 again) and move Jonny down to holding midfielder taking out Brown or Clayton. If based on form from Southampton, I'd keep Clayton and play him alongside Jonny. Snodgrass was a bit sluggish today, but Lloyd Sam isn't any better. McCormack is our best bet at Striker for now until Becchio returns from that surgery. Max showed the few bright spots in the match with his forward runs with the ball. The back 4...I have no idea.

If Jonny could play the holding midfield role he would have done so last season...

All I'm saying is that Jonny isn't an attacking midfielder. He doesn't have that much pace. Ramon is much better suited.

I actually think Jonny looked ok at times, but when we went to 4-4-2 and Jonny had to drop back alongside Adam Clayton he did go missing. If we're gonna play 4-4-2, why wouldnt you leave Brown?

Snoddy wasnt fit, Andy OB wasnt fit... O'Dea doesnt even know everyone's names... Lonergan has played 1 game with this defense.

Andy O'Brien was absolute rubbish today, and our midfield didnt win a single header... I was gutted with the performance, but i also think Southampton were pretty good.

No excuses for today, but we will get better, and you people that are carrying on like all your negative crap is now justified after one game, get ready to eat some humble pie.... Dead-set idiots.

If it were up to me i'd drop OB for a while, move O'Dea to CB, start Parker (the only actual LB we have on our books)..

There's a couple of articles today saying that Becchio is already back running, so hopefully he'll be back shortly....

O'Brien was guilty of schoolboy defending, got turned inside out. I wouldnt drop him though, lets see him put in a blinder to make up for this

What I noticed most was the pitch looked massive, they had so much space and time.

They had 3 goals from 4 shots. If we had offered a threat up front it might have been a different story

Dead-set idiots  Nice

So you want to move someone who doesn't know any of the players names into the heart of the defence where argubly there as to be the greatest understanding between 2 players, and replace his position with probably the worst performer in the pre season friendlies. Ermm

well i just went through and read every post in the thread, and you'd have to be an idiot to post some of the crap that has been posted. There is 46 games in a season, and we've lost 1 of them!

By next week O'Dea will know their names, and he's fit.... I have faith in Parker, he just needs some game time.. and i dont like playing players out of position. I'd prefer him at LB..

Dead set idiots eh !

Have you seen Parker play recently, he looks like a fish out of water :fish2:

O'Brien has had only 90 minutes of pre-season & probably wasn't ready for competitive football

O'Dea i've never heard of & i question why did Celtic released him on loan from a poor league

As for idiots, Twiggs, yourself & your gang are all living in cuckooland if you think we are on the up. You need to watch Leeds on a regular basis & your deluded aspirations would soon be squashed.

As i posted yesterday a few of you underestimate the quality & strength of the opposition in the championship this season, several teams are way ahead of us with the quality/fitness of their squad. The Saints proved that point yesterday !

But it was only earlier this week you were creaming yourself that we had O'B and Kis in the middle and 1 game in you want to change it. IMO Parker will never be good enough to be the LB here.

We finished 7th last year... the players that we've lost... Naylor, Kilkenny, Johnson, Schmeichel were not great players.... Their replacements... Brown, Clayton, Lonergan, Kisnorbo, O'Dea are every bit as good... Snoddy, Max, & Jonny are still here...

It was a crap result and obviously we werent up for it, but our players didnt lose their ability overnight... We missed Luciano Becchio, and AOB was under-done and our backline has had no chance to gel....

Yes Silky Twiggs & Toby were raving about the quality of the current squad  i came away from the Sheff Wed friendly feeling very apprehensive & the Newcastle game a little more optimistic

Sheffield Wed ran us ragged, pressed us, closed us down & got stuck in which we couldn't handle it & generally looked poor

Newcastle DIDN'T press us, close down, stood off us allowing us to play open football. We look impressive when teams allow us to play BUT the championship doesn't work like that & many teams will not be laying down especially when they play Leeds

I'm really hope yesterday's performance has come as a real shock to Larry & his players & realise they need to up their game, if not we could find ourselves in deep trouble !

I just think you, and your mates, are fools if you're willing to pass judgement and carry on like everything that has spewed out of your mouth in the off season is now justified because we lost 1 game, away from home, against a side that just broke a record for most consecutive wins, which says to me that theyre a side in form...

My confidence took a hit after last evening's peformance... and i do have question marks over AOB and over Brown, neither of whom could put themselves in to the game....

BUT IT IS ONLY 1 GAME! Crazier things have happened in football.

And it's not like it's been a secret that Becchio is vital to the way we play..

Maybe it was a cunning plan by Grayson and his men to fool Ken Bates in to giving them some cash

Whilst it is only one game into a new season SG and his 'coaches' need to be working hard this week to ensure that there is no repeat of this performance.

Maybe it was a 'one-off', but we were done pure and simple by a better team that looked lots fitter, sharper, hungrier and had a plan.

By comparison we....

Managing is about course correction and you do that as and when necessary be it after the first game of the season or several games into it.

No doubting we all love Leeds, but we need those in charge of steering the club to get the finger out (to see what way the wind is blowing).

This is where you are wrong tho Silky !

You accuse us of basing our assessment on one match, thats so untrue......it has been obvious for months that this team needed some major reinvestment, not talking ridsdale type spending just decent signings !

Yesterday was evidence that Grayson and Bates's tatcis of trying to do in on the cheap will not be succesful, yes Southampton played well but we were downright pathetic - with and your words here, our first choice Central defence , which supposedly " could be as good as anyone in this league " - yeah right !!

You have been and still are serioulsy deluded if you think this squad can compete........thats all us " dead set idiots " have been saying for past few months. But you and others just thought nah, these lot are tallking sh1te this squad is fine !

It may have only been one match but I cannot see any change agst other Championship teams ( fully expect us to beat Bradford and rightly so on Tues ) unless Bates/Grayson realise that we need REAL QUALITY now, not bargain basement signings.

You may not think this, but we love Leeds United every bit as you do.....it hurts like hell when you see our team beaten like they were yesterday and thats why we are moaning and groaning, not because we just love to come on this forum and preach doom and gloom. Grayson has had all summer to find/source and buy decent players but its only now that he is realising that what we have right now is a squad that can probably just about see off relegation - nowhere near promotion standard - if he and Bates had planned properly we wouldnt have witnessed such a inept start to the season.
LEEDS AND FOREVER PROUD TO BE !!
