O/T My Project!

Post by Silky »

Hi all!

It's Friday night, Claire's out with her mum, and i aint got no spending money.. so i thought i'd kill some time showing you all what's been keeping me busy lately (Other than Leeds and Uni)..

I think first of all, for you to fully appreciate why i put all the effort in, you have to watch this!! It's a little clip explaining the rivalry between Ford and Holden cars in Australia...

SO!! I've always wanted a classic Ford, but i need something reliable, so purchasing a 30+ year old car would not be a smart move... As it happens, The Falcon utility chassis didnt change from 1979 right up untill 1999, just the panels and things... so i purchased a 1996 model, and got 1982 model donor car... and mixed 'em together!!

This is the Ute the day i bought it... a 1996 model XG Ford Falcon Ute
Image

And this is the donor car... the '82 model...
Image

And here's the two of them next to each other in the garage..
Image

Here's all the bits and pieces off the '82 model (or the "XE") that i wanted..
Image

Next step, bolting the XE bits on the XG and starting to strip it all down, ready to be re-sprayed...
Image

One from the back..
Image

I'll continue on in another post....

This is the day we got it back from the spray-painters... starting to bolt things back on...

Wow, looks cool - well done.

My hubby did something similar with a Lotus he had, then promptly went and smashed it up after Wolves beat Liverpool in a cup and he went for a drink to celebrate.

Great car - real class!! I didnt realize Ford was popular anywhere but the States. I figured most US car companies figured that most of the world market would hate the crap they come out with. They actually have dealerships and the lot in Australia?

Thanks everyone!

Dr, i think it's a real shame the way the British car industry has gone. They used to make some fantastic small cars... but they all seem to be European built now...

Ford is a global thing mate lol, and it was the first car company in Australia... the other big name here, 'HOLDEN', was originally 'GMH' (General Motors Holden). Our Holden Monaro is exported back to America and used as your Pontiac.. Australia is everywhere mate!! Infact, i think one of the highest selling Fords of all time in America, the Ford Capris, was actually an Australian Ford... and would you believe, no one liked it here...

Over the years Ford Australia has had a few different American models, but mostly the Fords sold in Australia are designed and built right here in Aus... obviously the Falcon nameplate ORIGINALLY was an American thing, but it stopped production around 50 years ago in the US, and has continued on down under!! We mostly selling European Fords now (Focus, Fiesta, Mondeo) but we still have the Territory, and the Falcon.. built for Australian Conditions!

Here's a few more sexy old Falcons!

1965 XP Falcon Coupe
Image

1970 XY GT Falcon
Image

1973 XB GT Coupe (This is the car Eric Bana's film "Love The Beast" is based on)
Image

And this is the current model, the 2010 FG GT-P
Image

This is my model, the XE, in race trim..

My very first car was a Ford! One of these!

Image

Was originally a 1964 1200 model. Was working in a garage at the time and had access to bore out the motor block to 1500, fit Cosworth pistons and a Lotus cortina cylinder head. A set of twin webber carbs and a high ratio gearbox gave me 0 to 60 in 9 seconds!
However, I ran out of cash to strengthen the body and she eventually shook herself apart! Was great to have a boy racer pull up at the lights and rev up in a TR5 or a DB6 or whatever...seeing my rust machine. I'd thrash him over the green light and leave him choking in my rust!

My dream job is to restore old vintage cars like you have done mate.
I sometimes help out a neighbour of mine who imports and restores old Ford Mustangs and Chevvy Corvettes. I have the mechanic skills to use his workshop machines to adapt parts from other scrapyard cars to replace the original knackered parts. Only last month, I rethreaded a set of track rod ends from a wrecked 2002 BMW to fit his latest 1965 Mustang. the diameter was the same, just the threading was wrong. Neighbour was very happy, as the original parts were not available.
Wish I had the money to set up a business doing that. Getting paid for what you love doing!

Oh go bollox! Having seen your motor and where you live from your pics - I just wish I had your fekkin MONEY, you lucky mofo!

Make me either one of these and we'll be in business

Oh, and nice job. I personally adore Aston Martin though. Created by God imo.

I like your first car as well Twiggs, genuinely. It's those big round headlights that do it for me

I'd love a Mach I Cortina... great old Fords..

As for me having money!! ahahahahaha :hahaha:

I've lived with my parents since we got back from the UK. They have a nice house, but they pay rent... and the location might look particulary nice to you, Twiggs, but honestly... we live in an old-ish, cheaper part of town.. Australia's just a lovely, big, sunny place!! They cant afford to buy a place of their own in the area we live in..

I have spent a grand total of $3500 Australian dollars on the ute... which is close to 2000pounds i believe.. half of which was paid for with money left to me by my grand mother who passed away last year.. It looks good because i've worked hard on it, not because i've spent lots of money on it..

So you want money like me Twiggs? Live at home, go to Uni and claim a government allowance, and dont have kids till you can afford it!! And dont borrow money! Save up! That's the trick...

Just remember, the panels on this car are from 1982, so she's not in bad shape
