Assuming they were all of an age....
...on form and available on the market, who would you splash the cash on?
Lukic or Lonerghan?
Batty or Clayton?
Speed or Snodgrass?
Wallace or McCormack?
Deane or Becchio?
Fairclough or Lees?
McCallister or Howson?
Dorigo or..... ok. It's Dorigo.
I suspect that most of these are an easy choice in truth, but I also think that one or two might just have been pressing for a place in the Wilko squad. Which ones would you have the hardest choice choosing between?

Keep the Wilko squad, except swap Deane for Becchio.

Depends on which version of Lukic was available - the one before the introduction of the back-pass rule, when he was very good, or the one after the rule change. If they're theoretically playing now, I'd have Lonergan.drsdadsotherson wrote:...on form and available on the market, who would you splash the cash on?

Out of interest, why did you opt for Deane in the Wilko squad rather than Chapman? I'd have thought it was the title winners we were comparing.

I suspect the majority will go for Wilko's squad because time has a way of making players seem 50x better than they actually were - not that Wilkinson's squad was a bad one obviously.
Lukic or Lonergan
Batty or Clayton - not really comparable, two entirely different types of player, but Batty... just.
Speed or Snodgrass - and I f**king loved Gary Speed. He is Welsh though, so has to lose points for that.
Wallace or McCormack
Deane or Becchio
Fairclough or Lees
McAllister or Howson.

I think some are forgetting that Wilko's players were playing at the highest level in English football, we won the premiership as it is now. Comparing championship players with the level of our champions of 1992 is ludricous !
Yes GW Chapman was one our most important players in that title winning team
Deane was in the average mid 90's prem team

GW, I popped in Deane instead of Chapman because there isn't much point in comparing Chapman to Becchio imo.
I'd also go for the earlier players in most cases, but might struggle with Fairclough/Lees and Lukic/Lonerghan.
64, yes those players were at the top level of English football back then, but can you honestly say that the top level of English football 20 years ago was comparable to the top flight today? It's tough because standards and styles of play have changed so much since, but overall I would say the quality of a player in the Premiership now is on average way higher than it was then. That's another thread though.
