Re: New chants/songs
Think its probably the minority singing 'support the team or f*ck off home', not the other way round.
Some of the chants are embarassing, the Ross one doesnt even work properly.
Snoddy Snoddy Snoddy, rarely done at Elland Road
Why havent we got a Clayton song? Howson?
The We are the Champions chant is no worse than the one that a majority of supporters sing - "We are the greatest team in football, the world has ever seen". At least it had a significance, other fans may sneer but its sung in defiance against the European Cup that we were robbed of - that team deserved the trophy and that was their year
Glory, Glory Leeds United - we've got to go a long way back for some glory but at least we've had some
Dom Matteo - f*cking great goal
Bates Out - back in five minutes

Seems strange but why dont Forest fans sing "we are champions, champions of Europe too then - cos they are more champions of Europe than we are.

The reason we sing that is that we were rightful champions in 1975 but we robbed. We thus never got the chance to defend "our title" and are therefore rightfully still champions. That's the logic anyway.joluafc4eva wrote:Seems strange but why dont Forest fans sing "we are champions, champions of Europe too then - cos they are more champions of Europe than we are.
Forest did get the chance to defend their second title and legitimately lost it.

Sorry but we lost end of - had a goal disallowed (thats happened a few times since) and anyway Bayern Munich scored 2 so they could still have gone on to win 2-1.Dr.Leeds wrote:

Forest on the other hand did win the European Cup

You are making the mistake of assuming all football chants have to be grounded in reality. I believe we have had this discussion before, resulting in the classic "Realistic Songs" Thread.joluafc4eva wrote: Sorry but we lost end of - had a goal disallowed (thats happened a few times since) and anyway Bayern Munich scored 2 so they could still have gone on to win 2-1.

Exactly. No one ever said they had to be truthful!Dr.Leeds wrote:

Bates is Chelsea and always will be.
Now a stupid chant is that drone of "We are champions, champions of Europe" - we never were and sounds like we could be prentending we are scum or Chelsea. We lost the European cup (fairly or unfairly) in 1975 and its not down on our records as a trophy we have won. So why sing about summat that never happened.
Im pretty embarrassed whenever I hear it and fans of other teams just think its so funny they take the micky out of us.
Weren't you keen on Poyet as manager at one point? No difference between Bates and Poyet - people move on [mostly]. Ken of course did leave the Chelsea fans in an incredibly strong position on and off the pitch especially on it given that they own it.
You got to ac (yes, yes) -cent-tchu-ate the positive
Eliminate (yes, yes) the negative
And latch (yes, yes) on to the affirmative
Don't mess with Mister In-Between
No, don't mess with Mister In-Between
Glow in the dark is the best new chant. No hate, simple like all good comedy.

What? If you are cheated, you are cheated. The flow of the game changes and we'd have won having dominated throughout.joluafc4eva wrote: Sorry but we lost end of - had a goal disallowed (thats happened a few times since) and anyway Bayern Munich scored 2 so they could still have gone on to win 2-1.

Re: 1975 euro cup final..there was much more thant a dissallowed goal from us..one of theres was offside was nt it?..plus we had a stonewall pen turned down on clarke..plus another as well so we were robbed..to say different is almost in my book is almost traitorous.

No they aren't. It's sung in response to people getting on the back of players!Twiggster wrote:
WRONG Harry - the "support the team" chants are sung at the tossers who sing the "you chelsea barsteward" minority at ER.
And the anti-Bates chanters aren't in the minority, I'm not going to say they are the majority but certainly not some small faction like you make out.

To be honest, it was so long ago that Ive forgotten quite a bit of the game - just the disallowed goal cos I was gutted. I was celebrating like crazy and then my mum said "it looks like its been disallowed". I remember the riots after the game - thought they were brill even if we were banned from Europe for 5 years after that.mchldavies7 wrote:Re: 1975 euro cup final..there was much more thant a dissallowed goal from us..one of theres was offside was nt it?..plus we had a stonewall pen turned down on clarke..plus another as well so we were robbed..to say different is almost in my book is almost traitorous.
I was doing a project on football violence at school at the time, and the pictures and reports from that game were just what I needed. Ended up winning a school prize for that.
Anyhow whatever happened we didnt win it and its not down as one of the trophies we have won.
