In my view both Grayson and Bates are responsible for the club's failings. Bates alienates people and puts off investors. Perhaps that's why, if actually true, he only attracts the chancers he says come to him and not the serious investers we need.

Grayson has made a few good signings, but most of them have turned out to be duff or he can't get the best out of them. His tactics are often dubious and he has been at the helm when we've lived through some of our most humiliating games. On the other side, he has also got us promoted and taken us close to the play-offs last season. He was also at the helm when we beat scum and we've put in some other good displays against premiership teams in the cups where we've been able to hold our heads high. However, although I thank him for the good memories, this is outweighed by the bad. How long have we been bemoaning our disorganised and inept defense? It couldn't be allowed to continue like this and I think he had to go, although the timing is not the best.

I Think our next appointment needs to be a young manager (Eddie Howe at Burnley is a manager I like) It also needs to be someone who will stand up to Bates. Problem being, anyone likely to stand up to him wont get an interview even for the post. I fear all we're going to get is a yes man to carry on what good and bad work Grayson did. It would be good to get someone in who has a track record for tight defences - Bruce being a top ex-defender would be a good candidate you'd think, but look at what happened to him @ Sunderland - did the same as Grayson and things went very stale (O'Neill has turned things around pretty impressively)

For the first time in ages, im struggling to see where we go from here tbh. Only way i see things really improving is Bates goes. That isnt going to happen, so we're just going to carry on being inconsistent, selling our best players and not replacing them, being a breeding ground for crap loan / premier league youth players that nobody else would want.

Long time viewer, first time poster, and this seems as good a time as any to start.

I've always been in Simon's corner (Leeds lad, fan, managing with at least one hand tied behind his back by the bearded snake etc) but imo it's become apparent this season that the job is too big for him. The level of expectation from KB (unbelievable, I know, given his complete unwillingess to fund team building) and fans increased after we over-achieved last season and just missed out on the play-offs and, sadly, Simon has been unable to step up. For a guy who spent his playing career as a defender, to not be able to set up a back four to know what they're doing and/or do the basics well is inexcusable.

TBH, I don't think the best 15/16 of our first team squad are that bad and should be a match for most of the teams in this league but, for whatever reason (AOB saga, boffing the staff, playing his little favourites irrespective of form) Simon seemed to have lost the dressing room and when that happens, the writing is always on the wall. Not knowing his best 11, rotating defenders in the hope of finding a four who work, signing players and never playing them, there just seemed to me to be too much of a 'wing and a prayer' about Simon's management this season. For scum in the cup, Bristol Rovers on the last day of our League One campaign, several top drawer performances against Prem opposition and especially for how he carried himself after we lost Speedo, I will forever be grateful. For Blackpool, Barnsley and Brum, sorry, but just not good enough.

The man is a tool but, for me, Colin is the man who could take us to the promised land. Probably not this year, but have no doubt he would have us at the sharp end next season. Whether he could or would work with Bates is another matter altogether. Just as long as it's not Bruce, Keane or the two ex Chelski. I'd take McCarthy if Wolves give him the bullet, yorkshireman and a decent record in the Championship.

Just in case anyone's in doubt, I don't for one second believe Simon had it easy. Bates and his cronies are leeches who are sucking the life out of the club I love and, until they sell up and go, whoever is manager will face an uphill struggle. Simon battled valiantly to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear but, ultimately, I think he took us as far as he could. Thanks for the memories, and good luck wherever you end up next. MOT!!
