His first job was to sort the wheat from the chaff = done a great job so far with his keep/reject listings
Been open since he joined, that he doesn't rate a lot of the players
Told the fans not to expect play offs with the crap players Grayson left him.
An honest man in his statements so far and I hope Warnock succeeds.
Only two people killed our season - Bates for not financially supporting Grayson - and Grayson for shagging anything involved with the club that had tits and a fanny and disrupting the players. Who were crap anyway.
Bates supported Grayson with 30 odd players on daft wages Rogers, Mika, Clayton, Brown, Tommo, Sam, Delph, Andros, Pugh, Nunez all vying for same positions wasted wages waste of money

First problem for Colin was his ego - he thought the lads would rise up the league phoenix like on his arrival at ER. They may have done but his second mistake was to ask them to play a game they weren't up to. Read Bates recent interview on the official site for confirmation of this. His third mistake was snoddy - tried to convert him over night into Tarbuck. Our best player who was playing so well that he was made captain fell away - our best player was lost to us. At this point Colin changed tack and told us we had to grin and bear it to season's end. All of this I saw with my own eyes. Those who worship at the feet of a man who took 7 seasons to get a very good Blunts side promoted and couldn't do it until Mick Jones rejoined him will confirm much of what I say. Do not rely on the guys who text you about Howson. Talk to someone sensible. Colin overestimated his own skills, and overestimated the players ability to adapt, players who were bought to play a particular way. They were never fit enough [I have said this for 3 years - not fit and not strong, they never win a 50/50] which is the first and most important thing he has to sort out in pre season if we are to go up as champions. Before he came we still had an outside chance of the play offs. By the end we looked like QPR - relegation fodder. Bates may over charge but Colin took every last penny off me and gave me nothing in return. He has a lot to do and much of what he has to do is of his own making having run around shouting his mouth off. Let's hope he can build a side to get us up [possible] and to stay up [unlikely given his track record]. Football is payed on grass not a keyboard. What excites a keyboard wizard is very different to what excites paying customers. Nunez being a classic example of how wrong you can get it.
I seem to recall a certain Mr Warnock, whilst claiming all the credit for the win v Doncaster, suggesting that he had to come down at half time cos points were so vital. Yes without those crucial 3 points we would have finished 15th. Wonder why he felt those points were so crucial when he obviously knew he was just here this season to see the season out.....

I've pretended to support a team that's been crap for most of my life as part of a long term plan

Well what would you think of a manager who came in, while we still had a chance, and didn't motivate the players. He knew deep down that the players weren't good enough, hell we all knew that, but that doesn't mean he didn't want to see out the season with as much hope as possible.
I'll keep saying this, but since last Saturday, we can begin truly judging Warnock. It's his ideas, mistakes, strategies and plans that are in place now and he has the responsibility of that.

Oh yes the time starts now. I have high hopes for Warnock and think he is a good appointment and think that with the right backing he will do well. Doesn't mean he cannot be judged on how poorly he has done so far especially if you compare him to O'Neill who went into Sunderland, didn't buy new players and immediately turned them around. Ask yourself would O'Neill have got us into the play-offs if he'd taken over when NW did.
Still onwards and upwards and hopefully Pearce is one of many good signings - possible new captain?

O'Neil is a better manager so there would have been a better chance. Out of our league at the moment though... literally

I don't know would he have? I'm a huge fan of MON, and there's no denying he had an immediate effect, but he had a transfer window if he wanted it in January. And in Sunderland's last 10 games, they've only won twice. Interestingly, Warnock has done the same.
Agree with your last sentiment though.
