He may still turn things around, but so far he's done a rubbish job.

Personally, I would have kept the first 11 and anyone under the age of 24. then bought for the first 11.1964white wrote:

Pugh, Rogers, Clayton, Paynter could all have done a job as a squad member or in the case of Clayton and Pugh even in the the team. Longegran was a competent keeper and not bad enough to justify bringing in Kenny when we have such limited resources. Don't waste money on Ashdown, Varney, Norris, Tonge, Gray, Green, Drury and Kenny and bring in a couple of players who can replace the quality of Howson or Snodgrass or Gradel or Beckford. No point in replacing players just for the sake of it.1964white wrote:

IMO there's only Andy Gray who we've signed this season that isn't a better option than what we had last season.
For me the squad now, all of them, are capable of challenging for the playoffs there's just not enough of them.
The mistake he's made for me is letting Conns and Rogers go out on loan without having replacements lined up, and Nunez should have at least made the bench before his injury, he's certainly a player that has the technial ability to have an impact off the bench, as is Rogers. Connolly and Pugh are just solid squad players, Pugh more so because of his versitility.

Re: How long does NW have left
Pugh has been disappointing on the whole although i would give him another chance & start him at LB v ForestHarryofOz wrote:

Rogers his an unknown quantity
Clayton was sold to generate monies to bulk up the squad & in Austin we have a better all-round midfielder
Paynter was useless on a big salary too...9k i believe. Diouf has replaced him & has more quality in his big toe than Paynter possesses in his whole body. I reckon Diouf & Gray's wages combined are less than Billy was earning
Kenny is twice the keeper Lonergan will ever be, arguebly our best signing in the summer
Ashdown came cheaply & is very good second keeper as oppose to the clown we had last season
Drury is a better defender than White
I put on hold my reservations on Green & Norris until i've seen them play a few more games, my concern with these two they are both injury prone
I agree with you on Varney who has been a massive disappointment & i suspect Tonge is a desperate signing as he has only played for Stoke once in his three year spell there
To be fair to Warnock we needed to bring in some midfielders as we were very short in those positions, losing Snoddy made the situation even worse & we required new defenders as well. O'Dea went back to Celtic i think, Connolly was useless, White is vunerable, Kisnorbo is passed his best so retaining much of last years squad wasn't an option for me.
You have to remember we are still forking out possibly 25k/30k a week on salaries to long-term casualties Bromby, Nunez, Somma & one other who's name slips my mind, also Connolly is back with us in the treatment room...what with Ross, Green, Norris & Drury currently injured it only makes the job more difficult for NW as all those wasted wages could have been spent on other resources !

Gray is better than Paynter, lets face it he has played at a higher level than Barndoor throughout his career !rand3ll wrote:

Re: How long does NW have left
I said it when Grayson was sacked, I'd like to see us take a punt on Paul Tisdale, he's young, his sides play good football and he's had to work on a budget that when he looked at Leeds finances he'd think he was taking over at Man City.GlennLUFC wrote:havent read the whole thread but if NW isnt here after the next few weeks, who do we bring in to replace him?
He got Team Bath promoted 4 times in 6 years and they became the first Uni team to reach the FA Cup 1st round proper.
He has 2 promotions with Exeter too and lead them to their highest league finish in history.
Yes they got relegated last season, but they appear to have dusted themselves off and are in the promotion spots early this season.

Bates is understood to be unimpressed by Warnock's activities in the transfer market, which have included several attempts to press Leeds' chairman into signing players.
According to several sources, Warnock has been dissatisfied with the resources available to him to secure promotion to the Premier League, and has discussed the possibility of walking out on the club. This is taken from todays International newspaper does this report ring any bells with Leeds fans?

Only one I agree on is Clayton.HarryofOz wrote:Pugh, Rogers, Clayton, Paynter could all have done a job as a squad member or in the case of Clayton and Pugh even in the the team. You're argument is already poor saying that Gray is a worse back up to Paynter, when Gray has already scored: albeit, in vain.
Kenny is better than Lonergan. You say we wasted money on Green, yet would rather have Rogers, even though from the evidence we have seen of Green, he is a stronger player. Drury looks solid at the back. Tonge was only ever brought in as an emergency...while not anyones first choice, when you are broke, you can't really chose.
Our starting 11, when fit, is stronger than last years. We've had 2 big injuries in terms of Ross and Green, which has limited our team.
We can all start clamouring around with hindsight saying 'But X was better than Y" but I didn't hear many sticking up for Pugh or Paynter last year.

Re: How long does NW have left
I clearly have to explain what I mean.
I did not say that Paynter was better than Gray or Pugh/White better than Drury or Lonegran better than Kenny or any other comparison you care to come up with
I said that there was no need to make wholesale changes to the team/squad, and in fact given the limited resources it was the wrong thing to do because bringing in too many players reduced the quality of the players brought in.
What Warnock should have done was bring in three players of high quality rather than the huge influx of average players that he has brought in. With a few high quality players you can carry players who are not that good. With a high number of average players you struggle.

I follow you perfectly mate, it's the same reasoning behind my assertion that Kenny was a luxury we couldn't afford as we already had an adequate keeper...HarryofOz wrote:I clearly have to explain what I mean.

Me neither Leon. He could be the difference twixt relegation and mid table this season. Class keeper who I doubted when bought. Proved hissen so far tho.1964white wrote:

The signings of Varney and Tonge do worry me tho.
