Really, really, pleased with last nights result, but most of all, I'm pleased with the team NW played, thankfully he's seen the light by dropping Becchio, and I'm really pleased that Varney made is mark.
Lets just hope we keep it up
I prefer to look at it as resting Becchio, Baker Boy  We certainly sounded good, after Saturday's woeful display that wasn't too hard to achieve  :bear:
I'm going back to 505, I saw them at Sheffield and they were amazing.

Cheeky little old man  awwwww that kid has good taste, she'll go far  Becchio did right to grab the ball, if he's the designated penalty taker then of course he should take it even if he's only been on the pitch for a minute :) :bear:

agreed Ang; as I said in VLR last night, nowt wrong with a wee confidence booster for Becchio. Strikes me as a confidence player, getting on the scoresheet last night won't do any harm. Having said that, I wouldn't mind seeing Warnock start with the same team on Friday night with options to change it if we are struggling.

Thought we sounded solid and generally on top throughout the game, but better teams would have punished us when we went to sleep mid-way through the second half. Much tougher game at the seaside on Friday

My views at the end of last season was we required a complete overall of the team. Becchio & McCormack were not & are not the ideal strike-force, both lack power, strength & pace something our team has been crying out for since Beckford left the club...the only position Warnock could utilise Ross is on the left side of midfield, a position where we have a better player in Tonge who plays that role effectively & he scores goals too :-D

Becchio & McCormack on the bench as impact players has always been my opinion since day one of the current season !

Does Varney playing over Becchio signify how we would play when McCormack is back?

I feel we play much better when we play the ball on the floor, get it our wide and attach teams quickly. Long ball is not prety and not particularly effective, especially when your target man can't hold a ball up. I think Dious and Ross up front with plenty of pace, White or similar out wide gives us so much more creativity and allows us to hit teams on the counter. So much better than stagnant football we have seen of late.

To benefit from Diouf's silky touches/slick passes we require a quick striker upfront as Varney proved with his endless running last night. Ross is not quck enough & i always felt that we can't play Diouf & McCormack in the same team especially if we have Becchio in there too....as i said Tonge has quality right peg & technically is a better player than Ross

Last night we had Varney, White,Byram & Tonge bombing around the park with Diouf controlling the play around those four....Brown who had his best game in a Leeds shirt & Austin gave us a solid look in the engine-room

Spot on tactics/team selection from Warnock  what are the odds on NW changing the midfield/forward line for the Brighton game :? :x

It's a tricky one Leon. For all the knocks, Becchio does score goals but his mobility is poor, unlike Varney who, despite his poor start to the season, worked his nuts off last night. I personally think Ross is one of our more gifted players, but I don't think there's room for him and diouf in the same side. Either could fill the 'playmaker' role, for me it's a toss-up who would be most effective :duno:

Agreed mate, when we play the ball on the floor, we look a handful. With hoof ball, even if Becchio is winning headers, he's generally the last man and so, invariably, we lose possession (and the will to live!!!). If we can see it, surely Warnock can too? :?

A good performance by all, but why on earth can't they play like that in the league. Obviously lots of fans there who haven't been to many games siinging colins praise.

Maybe White Riot should changes seats every game!!

I think Varney should get the nod ahead of Becchio on Friday. He looks much better in his natural position. He was brilliant at getting in behind the defence last night and we've needed that.

I'm not 100% sure of the Diouf and McCormack don't fit in the same team thing. I've typically been paying attention to other areas of the pitch so it's something I'll have to look out for. I can't see why it couldn't work though, both cause teams endless hassle and both tend to get marked out of games, but if we had both on the pitch it's impossible to mark them both out of the game.

Not a toss up for me...in Diouf's case CLASS is permanent....McCormack is just a poor man's Rooney !

I think going forward we definitely miss Ross.....he is much better technically than any other player we have, except EHD.
So when he is fit, NW will have to find a way of playing them both.......no doubt in my mind that they can both be accomodated but be interesting to see if Warnock agree's.
