Alarming Article - GFH + Haigh

Post by Blakerb-LUFC »

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/articl ... arris.html

I know we are all meant to be positive right now and I am on a LUFC high! but when I was happily strolling along Leeds news now/browsing town's forums I came across an article that did alarm me and I couldn't just ignore it.

I thought i would put it to the attention of folks on here & see if others find it as alarming or whether they can perhaps manage to push it under the carpet/dismiss it.

For me though, when a positive takeover of a club happens, it generally isn't done like this & it all reminds me all too much of the type of movements and actions of papa smurf himself. Even though I am quite sure GFH will bring better football on the field than Bates was doing, I wonder/worry about the long term/other aspects of the club & what reasons they have for their lack of openness.

Oh and yes, I am aware it's the daily mail and all should not be taken at face value but I have heard a few of the things mentioned in the article elsewhere but just ignored them to the best of my ability!

Hopefully someone can put out the worry that article has caused me :!:

A lot of blah blah blah but no facts.
Pretty much what we all know.
A few websites deleted? No big deal.
I dont mind some of the BNP's "points" but if you associate your self with them in this country you would be instantly crucified. So taking down his political points of view is a good idea really.

i think the big question we are getting at here is where did the money come from to buy ER.

That whole article is pure conjecture. Like Ems says, there isnt a single fact in it, apart from maybe the bit that says GFH are buying Leeds for £52m.

Under the first initial photo, for a "Daily Mail" article, which im sure is proof read before printing, the caption is "Front-man: David Haigh, the Tory activist involved the a Leeds buy-out". Now Im not an English teacher, but that is p!ss poor English, my point being, If they cant get their captions correct, what are the chances of the rest of the article being worded / being factually correct. Im going to guess little tbh.

Are they really scaremongering about where someone's website is / isnt registered and to whom? thats called grasping at straws Twiggs... Nowt else.

Having read that article, I dont think we have anything to worry about.

When I set out to write an article for this website I introduce the themes, give my arguments nd then write a conclusion.

This article has no conclusion. It offeres a lot of unrelated arguments, Haigh never having tweeted about Leeds Utd before, the fact that they dont have any football experience, the fact taht his site said he won an award when he hadn't. All conjecture and not dummed up into any kind of argument. What is the author trying to say? What is he suggesting?

And all the stuff about him being a Tory party activist, where is he going with that?

The most alarming thing about it is that that is the standard of journalism these days.

Has anyone else ever seen that Man U tweet he's referenced? I'd like to think at least one Leeds fan on Twitter would have looked at Haigh's past tweets and seen it; retweeting to let the rest of Twitter see.

If not, then (a) how did this 'journalist' stumble across it? (b) why didn't he take a screenshot or some other bit of evidence as proof. And (c) any one out there can claim that a tweet was made and deleted without any proof.

I also think it's silly saying that he'd never made a Leeds tweet before the takeover. From what I see, his twitter is used in quite a professional sense, he's not going to tweet about football results on it. We all accept he wasn't a die hard Leeds fan who went to every game and whistled MOT in the shower every morning.

Anyway, take reading that article in the same vein as the author wrote it: not seriously.

What a ridiculous article. Based on no facts at all and fails to mention the 1992 title success when it refers to the glory years. Woo a website being revamped that seems to be the only thing bout which this article seems to be written. Absolutely bizarre.

He's from Cornwall, he never claimed to be a hardcore football fan and as a casual supporter (not in the Stone Island sense) I expect he watches other teams and every so often may even comment on them.

We knew Haigh was in it from the start...

This Manc garbage came out after the takeover was done

Plenty of lads on Waccoa were crawling through as much info as they could... that tweet would have been spotted and a seperate thread would have been created from it! Neither did...

What a load of bollocks!

Well, glad I seem to be pretty much alone in finding it alarming.

I have just learnt to expect the worst but for once I shall be optimistic without reservation

Between you lot, that article was comprehensibly ripped to shreds

It wasn't worth retweeting. It was something along the lines of

"Well done to Manchester United who Won the Premier League again"

The reaction to the article reminds of the reaction to articles questions Bates' integrity in the past.

One major difference - there is a 50-year history of bates complete lack of integrity which is freely available to all who want to see it (obviously, that excludes folk like riot)

David Haigh is an unknown quantity. So is GFH.

If they do not come up with reasonable (not Risdale-esque) investment in the team in the New Year and next summer there will be plenty of questions.

Until then, innocent until proven guilty
