Phil Hay reporting on Twitter that a UK-based consortium (one NOT involving the Chief) has been granted a period of exclusivity regarding a significant investment in LUFC. Chair and MD as you were, Hay seems to think this is positive re investment in Jan/Summer

GFH Capital, majority owners of Leeds United FC, have granted a period of exclusivity to the investors in readiness for the January transfer window.

The two parties have signed a share acquisition agreement for the purchase of shares in the club with GFH retaining a significant stake.

The consortium includes a number of high profile businessmen, and does not include any previous owners or players of the club. It is anticipated that the investment will be in place for the January transfer window and will see existing Chairman Salah Nooruddin and Managing Director David Haigh remain at the club for the long term.

Since formally completing its purchase of Leeds United in December 2012 GFH Capital has always stated it was its plan to ensure the long term and sustainable regeneration of the club through partnering with strategic and like-minded investors who share its vision.

The announcement is the culmination of many months of negotiations by a team led by David Haigh.

No doubt if other clubs knows we got money, they will rise the price of the players we want to buy significantly.

It'll do one of two things: fire up some of the fringe players to prove they have got what it takes or destroy the team morale for the fringe players who will think, what's the point, they are looking to replace us in January.

Won't get too excited because we don't need huge investment, just one, maybe two quality players who enhance what McDermott has going on here at Leeds. No point splashing out on 5/6 players who might rock a boat that is sailing quite steady. Let's see where we are in January, hopefully in with a fighting chance.

Agree totally with this...
Our current good form is masking some deficiencies i think. Ross for example banging in the goals means right at this minute we dont need a top top striker. Problem being, and Im not a negative thinker, How long will this last for? History will tell us we will have blips at some point in the season, whether thats Injuries, loss of form or a run of defeats, we still need I think 3/4 quality players.

A couple of pacy wingers would be a good starting point...

Im confident this investment will give us what we need to move onto the next level. As we're currently sitting in the playoffs Im pleased this is coming about now...

Exactly, and I don't think risking the latter is worth the former - we are doing ok at the moment. It also raises fans expectations as to what will happen come January setting up potential disappointment if we don't sign Messi. It also increases the likelihood of overpaying for lesser players (though I would hope Mcdermott to hopefully not fall into the trap given his opinion of the January window).

Yep I agree here too as I do think though that wingers and a striker may improve us. I just think investment announcement would have been enough to please all without shouting about January.

Perhaps it's a play to make sure these investors actually follow through with their promises?
