Re: Leeds v Leicester - Team/Reports/Ratings
I thought we were awful today and we ati cannot hold the ba for longer than 5 seconds. Crisps had 62% possession and IMO deserved to win overall. We offered very little attacking and I thought Stewart was a bag of s**t. I was right about him being useless. Kebe I think will get better with games. I'd take 21st if it was on offer now

Don't agree with this at all. In the first half we could and should have gone 3 nil up. Ross was on fire. I thought WE deserved to win overall. Unsure about Stewart, need to see more of him, only his second game.
I'm going back to 505, I saw them at Sheffield and they were amazing.

Agree BB, 3-1 at half time would have been just, not too many chances in second half but we did enough to win the game.becchio bear wrote:

Stewart looks a poor player to me, think Kebe did ok for the first hour but he's obviously not match fit and should have been replaced sooner but not by Diouf.

Can't fault the effort. but those two 'shots on goal' in the first half by Austin, said it all about quality, is Stewart made of Balsa wood because he sure was knocked off the ball a bit too easy for my liking. Kebe was Very Poor, couldnt trap a bag of cement.radebe88 wrote:Effort 10/10

IMO i dont like the look of Kebe or Stewart, When you compare Vardy/Nugent/Phillips to Varney and Kebe/Stewart to Knockheart i think we see how far behind we are

Remember the crisps hit the bar too, we looked better than against Rochdale Wednesday etc but we can't seem to finish. Leicester took their chance and won the game. Brown did well austin better in the holding role but the two wingers were ducking abysmal. That's Brian's game plan. In other news nahki wells scores again.

Best teams are fit and win plenty of games late on, the opposite of that is LUFC. Only one winner the longer the game went on. We were better than of late especially first half, you can't expect to win football matches if you fluff all your chances. Pearson sorted his side out at half time though and BM watched and didn't react, as Foxes penned us in.
McDermott's team selections/substutions totally baffle me, Foxes bring on a slimline Kevin Phillips where as McD relies on a unfit Diouf who looked like he'd had eaten too many Christmas puddings. Why replace Varney in the 85th minute anyway ? Why didn't he put on Poleon for the inept Kebe & how the hell did Stewart remain on the park
Having gone back to basics we didn't do the basics right. Ross missed 2, Lees 1 and Kebe another. Nothing more basic than taking your chances or defending. Phillips dummy took both centre halves out of the game. A flailing leg later the inevitable goal arrived. I'd have taken a point, obviously wasn't meant to be !
Kenny 6
Byram 7 - kept Dyer quiet, young Sam is improving with every game
Lees 7
Pearce 7
Warnock 8 - made some good headed clearances, good runs down the flanks, adds toughness to the team...MOTM
Kebe 4 - started well, soon faded....hadn't trained all week due to a back injury
Brown 7 - the old man brought some order to our midfield
Austin 6 - didn't go beyond the halfway line as much today which kept our shape in the middle....better
Stewart 3 - terrible
Varney 7 - ran his socks giving us movement upfront
McCormack 6. - missed two glorious chances which could have given us all three points

Re: Leeds v Leicester - Team/Reports/Ratings
Listen, pressure was on the team today after recent weeks and alot of players could have quite easily gone into theirs shells. However we came out and had a go from the start and with a bit more luck could have come away with a win. Changes needed to be made to personal and formation and they were. Thought lees and pearce did well against a prolific strike force, maybe not the most composed footballers but never affraid to put their bodies on the line for the team. Warnock and byram are our best full backs and with games and fitness will only get better. austin and brown did their jobs in the middle of the park and stopped Leicester from playing. Varney and macca are alot more mobile and an better all round threat than smith. Kebe and stewart have come into a struggling team which is low on confidence and should at least be given a bit of time. If austin is going to hold not sure I would continue with brown, would like to see a more creative player in there. Varney did a job today after not much game time and deserves a bit of credit, however that is one position as we must strengthen as macca is our only genuine quality striker. Not saying we're a great team, far from it, but after recent weeks the team and BM deserve alot more support and credit after the efforts today. Be lucky to make play offs now as 6 points off 6th place and 9 points of 5th place, but lets hope they give it they at least show some intent.

Aye Byrum looked a class above, I'm willing to give Kebe a chance but have a sneaking suspicion he's past his best...shouldn't have started today, would have been better off the bench against a tiring defence. I'm not a fan of all effort and no class by the way...I don't care if they all ran themselves into the ground it doesn't make up for players who can put their foot on the ball and make the ball do the work.1964white wrote:Best teams are fit and win plenty of games late on, the opposite of that is LUFC. Once again we wre ut done in the final minutes just like at reading,we need to concentrate more. The performance was a ot better than the last two games but still not good enough some strange decisions from Brian Diouff came back into the fold after we told he was free to find another club,Pugh was left out completely Thought Austin looked a better player than his last few performances maybe he was glad to lose the captaincy.
Kenny 5 Looked slow coming out for the goal
Byram 6 Looked to be a lot fitter
Lees 5 Should have scored
Pearce 6 Usual steady performance
Warnock 6 Got forward but free kick in injury time was disgusting
Austin 6 A fr better erformance
Brown 7 A workman like display
Stewart 3 Out of his depth
Kebe 6 Does not look fit
McCormack 5 Missed two sitters
Varney 8 M.O.T.M for me
Diouff 2 Why
Peltier 3 No time given

I've been very critical of Leeds over the last few weeks....but not today....at least we put in an effort...that's all i ask since we don't have a quality side....they tried manfully.
For that i applaud them :clap2: :clap2:

I must have fallen asleep and dreamed a completely different game to the one the rest of you watched.
Given the quality of the team we were against and the performances of the last month I took a lot of positives from that game.
Sometimes I wonder if certain people being offered a free fiver would turn it down in disgust because it's not a tenner.

Re: Leeds v Leicester - Team/Reports/Ratings
Considering we were playing against the top club in the league (who are now 7 points clear!), I thought we did enough to get a draw. IF we'd have played like that in the past few games we'd have beaten the Wendies and destroyed Rochdale.becchio bear wrote:

Worryingly, if Ross doesn't score, Leeds don't score and he'd normally have had today's chances in the net. Hope the captaincy hasn't put him off his concentration.
Stupid subs too late cost us the game today. The team was still trying to fit Pelts in, when the visitors took advantage and scored. I didn't see the point in taking Varney off as he was worring their defence all game. Diouf and Pelts were subbed on to play for the draw - which I feel would have been the result anyway, had baldy not made the changes so late in the game.
A much better team effort tho, which was heartening - but the goal was a fiasco from when Stewart lost the ball (AGAIN), to Pearce being dummied, to Lees failed attempt to block and Kenny not coming to smother.
Thought Brown did very well, considering how he was being clattered. Mowatt would have sat down and cried for his mum, had he got the aggro that Brown did. On my list for MOTM.
Byram also a contender for my MOTM and it was great to see him back to his old self today - being an attacking FULL back and not a wing back. If Kebe can get fit, he and Sam showed some great team work that bodes well for the future, I hope.
My MOTM tho goes to Varney. He was an absolute thorn in the Leics defence's sides today. Never stopped hassling them, Excellent work rate and crossing. He even got a right hook to the face that should have had Walislowski(SP?) sent off.
Nigel Pearson 1 - Brian McD 0......the substitutions were the deciding factor for me, with this defeat

Leeds v Leicester - Team/Reports/Ratings
A significant and much needed improvement. Nevertheless a change of system and personnel and it's going to take time. The league leaders were always going to be a stern test under these circumstances.
Kenny 6 Had very little to do. Mix up with Pearce at the end let Konchesky in.
Byram 7 Defensively solid. Very little in the way of runs forward today though (I suspect Kebe's lack of fitness has something to do with that. You need to have someone who can cover back if Byram goes a long way forward)
Lees 7 Controlled things well at the back. Limited a strong forward line to very few opportunities.
Pearce 6 More composed than he has been. Like Lees has to take credit for keeping the league leaders to very few chances but culpable for the goal.
Warnock 7.5 and MOTM Initially Pugh deserved to keep his place but for a while I've been wanting to see Warnock back in the side. Covered a lot of the pitch, got forward well. One or two (but not enough) of his corners looked dangerous.
Kebe 5 Clearly not match fit and should have been replaced after at most 65 minutes. He was a passenger after that. A few deft and intelligent touches in the first half I hope are a sign if things to come. Potentially a very exciting partnership with Byram down the right.
Austin 7 Much better from Rudi. Did the job we need of him. Ran their players down. Put his foot in and protected the defence. Our central midfield lacked quality in possession though. Against less tough opposition Murphy or Mowatt need to play ahead of one of Austin or Brown.
Brown 7 See Austin.
Stewart 4 There were a few flashes of what Stewart can do when in possession of the ball but was too easily brushed off. Needs to do a lot more when the opposition has the ball. I reckon he could be a good buy in time.
Varney 7 Ran and defended from the front. Quality cross for Ross's header. Did well to get up from several facial assaults. I'd still much rather see Smith in the side.
McCormack 6 Good running again but should have taken at least one of his chances. Hit the post, bought a couple of good saves out of Kasper and one cleared off the line but really should have hit the net.
Subs:
Peltier Not enough time. Change should have been made earlier to push Byram up into Kebe's position.
Diouf Covered every blade of grass without even moving. Lord only knows what he has been up to but he needs to get training.
A game we didn't really deserve to lose. A committed organised team performance against the league leaders where we made plenty of chances but ultimately failed to take them. Some if the faith lost over the Christmas period should have been restored and hopefully we can build on it.
