His team selection has been suspect all season.....once again he shows he has favourites
Lees in for Wootton who didn't deserved to be dropped
He has persisted with Austin (slightly better today) even though he put one shocker in after another
Zaliukas on the bench last week, not in the squad today
Perseveres with Stewart who has been totally ineffective
And saving his best for last
How can he make substitutions & leave daddy longlegs Kebe on the pitch....one decent game in about 6 now, today he was abysmally woeful
Great managers don't make so many blunders which is clearly apparent to a layman
watching from the stands or his telly
Lees was out of the squad last week for personal reasons. While I'm not his biggest fan, indeed I prefer both Zaliukas and Wootton to him, he hasn't done much wrong, and to lose his place in a starting 11 due to personal reasons, would not induce a healthy competitive culture.
If anything, we've recently realised the effect of money on Brian's signings. Pre-Cellino we got Stewart and Kebe. Post-Cellino we got Wickham and Butland. If Cellino had have came in before the Jan window, I highly doubt Kebe and Stewart would be here.
Positives
Bar Sheffield Wednesday's freak result, we aren't a team that is going to lose by 3 or 4 goals. We've been conceding one at most in the majority of games, looking a lot more solid than we've been in the last number of seasons. Look at the rest of the results in the Championship, tight, some-might-say-boring, games aren't too common.
We've got the leagues highest goalscorer, second to only Suarez in the whole football league. We've also now got a genuine, class strike partner beside him.
We've lacked a bit of quality and that ability to take our chances that have seen us narrowly fall short of being able to beat the top teams in this league QPR and Leicester. This bodes well for the building of the squad for next season; the season that most realistic fans realised we are aiming for. If the players learn to play together and grow in confidence from these results, next year we will take those chances.
We are now only two or three players short of a promotion winning squad, if we factor in the possibility of signing Wickham and Butland. We are losing a lot of dead wood in the summer and look to have money, a quality centre mid and wingers and we could be a great team.
It's easy to jump in after a bad result (although a 1-1 draw away at QPR is a bloody decent result given our squad) and look at what Brian should have done. Long term, he's our man until the long term results prove otherwise.
