Re: McCormack
Putting aside his level of consistency, and whether or not we'd be a better side if our manager didn't seek to accomodate him every game, his goals and assists have at least ensured that we aren't looking over our collective shoulders in what has been a season of mediocrity and, increasingly, chaos. The fact that he's been playing in a crap/underperforming side may just tip the balance in his favour?? A deserved nomination, imho

Re: McCormack
Didn't Vydra win it last year? Was a constant goal scorer for Watford last season but didn't make the step up to Premiership. There's little question that we build our team around McCormack, although that's what most teams do with their best players, and there may be some doubt that McCormack could make the same impact in another team or even in the Premiership. However the its and buts apply to anyone up for these awards and as with the majority of awards, are based on opinions. Saying that, scoring goals in a mediocre team, being top goal scorer and remaining loyal to a club when a Premiership offer is in place definitely make up my opinion, although I'd almost always show bias for one of our gems.

So, looking at that, how come he didn't win? What criteria did they use?

I don't believe those stats
Does it tell you how many one on one chances with the keeper he has missed
Does it tell you how many goals he has scored from the 100's of free-kicks he has taken
Does it tell you how many games he goes missing
NO !

It doesn't tell you those stats about the others either, Leon! As for one on one chances with the keeper, how poor was Beckfords stats in those circumstances too, yet he is a legend at the club.

Re: McCormack
Bad luck Ross, I've no idea if he had a better season than those above and my bet is nobody does..Ings is playing for a successful teams and he's a key part of it. Ross is playing for a team playing well below their ability and for the last few games has been captain of it. As a captain then he's not done that well.
I'd still make the argument that however good a player he is (and I've never said otherwise) he is detrimental to this clubs fortunes on the field...but that one is falling on deaf ears so I'll not bother and you didn't read that.

In principle you are entirely right - he is not the right player around which to build a team.faaip wrote:Bad luck Ross, I've no idea if he had a better season than those above and my bet is nobody does..Ings is playing for a successful teams and he's a key part of it. In practice, with the complete absence of goal-scoring potential in the squad (I will exempt Smith who actually has a fair record in terms of goals per minute played), we have needed to build the team around him or we would be deep in the doo-doo.
The only players, imho, around which teams should be built are the dominating midfielders who shape a game - Billy, WGS, Bobby Collins etc. A sound defence, a dominating midfielder and then the strikers are the icing on the cake.
