Should Brian McDermott resign?
I do like the man but after a recent run of shocking results and not being able to string a win together is it best he departs with some form of dignity rather than be later sacked? We are in the same place as we was when grayson was incharge. i know he can only work with what he has, but where is the hunger from the players? The playoffs were written off weeks ago what we need now is to finish the season with some pride. i personally think we should feild the young players such as dawson etc. anyone else agree?

That's the problem. Why would he resign when if he got sacked he would get a pay out because he is Contracted for a certain length of time!faaip wrote:not if he wants to get paid...
I'm going back to 505, I saw them at Sheffield and they were amazing.

Absolutely not give him 2 years and that should be fair.

Re: should Brian McDermott resign?
15 wins in his 40 league games in charge is no great record, 8-9 of his own players in the squad and a year in he still doesn't know his best team. Only a couple of his signings have the potential to be any good and move the club forward. However despite all this I wonder weather change would be for the better, I always look how derby gave clough several years. Never consistent but steadied the ship and left them in a great position, so give bri at least next season and hopefully a bit of cash from the Italian in the summer. Hopefully guarantee safety soon and take the pressure of the current players and see what they can do. We have to be realistic and see there is alot of work to be done on and off the field. If bri was to leave, who the hell with any creditability would walk into this shambles as it is.

Brian seems to be a good man, a calming influence in his interviews. He's done some good positive things, made the TA pitch and ER correspond, started scouting again. Unfortunately the results of late have not been good. We are not winning games, things are going wrong. He still doesn't know his best team, keeps tinkering, starting to look a bit desperate. Doesn't use subs effectively. I'm starting to get worried.

You're describing an admin man with the stuff he does well...basic common sense running off a football club...sounds like he'd make a great assistant. But the on field stuff he has been of with since day one...he's not a good manager.becchio bear wrote:Brian seems to be a good man, a calming influence in his interviews. I think he should be given until the end of the season, then if he hasn't turned our fortunes around, then is the time to go. Now would be a rubbish time to change managers (I know, we've done that a couple of times in the last few years). IF he goes, a new manager with a chance to bring in some of his own choice of players, and the opportunity to offload some ballast would give new impetus to team and fans. Oh! and perhaps with a new(ish) Italian owner easing the purse strings!

now if we give him to the end of the season then we need to give him till Christmas..Otherwise the new manager will have to make decisions based on not much at all..I guess if we have money to burn in the summer that's not so much of a problem though

I think if Cellino gets the nod, after the 18th March court case , then the egg can wave goodbye. Right now if I had won a substantial amount of money and could ride in and buy out LUFC I might perhaps keep the egg in the background but would certainly get in a new manager.

I'd be surprised if BMC accepts demotion...but anything is possible. Right now though I've no idea what Cellino will do I think he quite likes BMC so it's 50/50 for me

Cellino is a results man who apparently knows his football - can't see him accepting our record this year under McD.faaip wrote:

Don't see anything happening until the ownership of the football club is resolved. When it is they need to act, decisively with a view to next season.

He may blame the players

He already did last week, but he will have seen that McD has little or no idea of how to play them.faaip wrote:

Re: Should Brian McDermott resign?
The presumably improved peformance today would suggest that he has the support of most of the players. I do think that a few players in the squad are not trying to help him and if that is the case he is right to not have them in the matchday squad.
I would take issue with people saying that he has bought nearly a team as this is nowhere near the case. In defence for example he is basically making do with what was already there. He brought in Wootton, likely as more of a long term signing. He also brought in Zaliukas who at first looked like a great signing but there seems to be a big question mark over his off and on field behaviour since he signed the contract.
In midfield he has also only bought in 1 player in Murphy. Again though, despite the fee, this is a long term signing and he has taken time to settle.
Up front and he bought in 2 players - both free. Hunt was a player he knew and trusted but has been a poor signing. Smith was another long term signing but has done well scoring 10 goals despite not many appearances.
Any manager needs to have his own squad of players. He inherited a lot of joureymen players, here on good wages and getting paid whether they play or not. Players who would have been shipped out if we got promoted. Players who know that if they are out of the side they might fare better if the manager is sacked and a new manager comes in.
Leeds is a long term challenge. At the moment we have an average squad and they are performing like that. I was not surprised by the improved performance today as it came away from home. That is not me having a go at our home fans but in our home games the atmosphere is a little uneasy, and it does affect players. Away games create a different atmosphere but a more supportive atmosphere as the fans are outnumbered so have to unite and combined with all being grouped in to 1 section of the stadium it creates the togetherness, which then translates into a more concentrated vocal support of the players.
Interesting though that BMc has adopted my suggested team and formation (although not sure as to whether he is playing it like I suggested) since midway through the second half of the Reading game.
