Re: Should Brian McDermott resign?
The players brought in do not constitute a team's worth of players unless you are going to play a very bizarre formation. He has brought in players as and when he could and has never been able to bring in all his targets due to the off field situations which has then meant scrambling around tr. ying to pick up the best of the cast offs. As such I would say the only signings he definitely wanted to bring in were Murphy, Smith and Hunt. Hunt has been a dissapointment but Murphy and Smith both seem to be developing well.
BMc also deserves credit for getting the best out of RMc. I imagine the majority of us would have sold him to Boro in the summer. He has also got Pearce playing well and with a decent centreback alongside him we could have the makings of a decent defence.
Now don't get me wrong performances of late have been poor and it is up to BMc to turn things around but we do need to accept a bit of reality in that we do not have a good team and are not going to win every game. I take heart from the improved showing against a very good Burnley side and like the make-up of the side. Yes it is not Conor Wickham's natural position to have to work out wide at times but it is a formation that as the team gets more used to it gives us a potentially very good attack. This formation has only been in effect for half an hour v Reading (which saw us score twice and go close to getting more) and against a very confident Burnley side where we were unlucky not to get more. We scored one, hit the post and they got lucky with an own goal.

No you are not a prat mate infact you have similar reservations about McDermott as I do. Should Cellino eventually acquire LUFC i'm pretty certain Brian will be shown the door, he has seriously under-performed with what is a better squad than we had under Warnock, i see little improvement as the season goes on, we commit the same mistakes game after game. Expect another battering or two in weeks to comeldsutd wrote:

Our fans continually blame refs, bad luck, Warnock, etc
You make your own luck mate. For the Burnley 1st goal the Clarets got behind us far too easily which put our defence under pressure with defenders having to deal with crosses on the back foot. We were NOT unlucky whatsoever, it was easier for McCormack to score than hit the post. We continue to make the mistakes every game, in the main games are won through errors & not a piece of sublime quality at this level. Our assist count must be very high
As for Reading, we didn't start playing until we were 0-4 down, we deserved nothing

Reading would have taken their foot off the pedal at 4-0...there's nothing to be read into what came after...

Re: Should Brian McDermott resign?
Not sure about this one...BMcD is a decent sort of a bloke and an OK football manager but is he the man to lead LUFC back to the Premier League? I don't personally think so but unless there is a viable replacement ready and able to step in there is no point him leaving.
I think while there is still uncertainty over the ownership issue the club need to try and be as consistent as they can be and this includes keeping the manager (there is no way he will resign IMHO). I know we were 6th earlier in the season but that was after a run of games against teams in the bottom half of the table, personally I think 10-12th is our natural position based on the players we have in our current squad. I would be tempted to wait until we were totally safe from relegation (hopefully in 3 games time) and then just play players who are likely to be at ER next season even if that means Butland and Wickham have their loans cut short. If that means playing more of the development squad then so be it

Re: Should Brian McDermott resign?
I'm in favour of playing those players who will be at the club next season, especially some of the younger lads. No point Butland, Kebe, Wickham playing if we are set for mid table and they are not going to be here next year.Cossie93 wrote:Not sure about this one...BMcD is a decent sort of a bloke and an OK football manager but is he the man to lead LUFC back to the Premier League? It's about time Chris Dawson was given another chance - and Zac Thompson too.
There's no point having them permanently in the Development Squad if we don't give them a chance to show what they can do.

Whilst I agree he should play more of the youth when we've little to play for, a run of losses would destroy their confidence, the teams confidence going into next season and the fans confidence. Whilst there is no immediate reward for finishing 8th in the league as opposed to 18th, there is a huge psychological effect even when getting introduced as "Leeds, who finished 18th last season".
The squad should be picked the same regardless of what's left to play for, and that should be you get a chance and if you are good enough you stay in. That includes anyone from Dawson to Tonge. It also means, within reason, possibly playing tactics that suits those better players than picking players to fill the role. Though the latter is a better strategy moving forward, the former may grind out some better results and keep morale up.

Problem is that Leeds aren't a counter attacking team. From the games I have watched they seem to be very slow in their attack build up. Unfortunately this doesn't suit the ex Reading players that are used to making quick breaks. In the Huddersfield game you pushed up to get the goal back and you saw the best of Kebe. Against us when you brought back 2 goals you threw everything forward and played well. Don't Know why Brian doesn't play that style, perhaps you just don't have the players to do that?

How is it better? It is largely still Warnock's squad. Last season we had a much better Byram (who hopefully will eventually get back to his best after his injuries which have seriously derailed him) and we also had Becchio scoring prolifically.1964white wrote:

Only Murphy is a first team regular that wasn't here prior to B Mc's arrival. Smith has been in and out and obviously now the 2 loanees but Butland wouldn't be here if not for Kenny's injury.

Re: Should Brian McDermott resign?
Our players have a mixture of styles. Mowatt, Murphy and McCormack would prefer passing to feet through the middle. Whereas Kebe and presumably Stewart would prefer the balls out wide to deliver in to Smith. Then most of Warnock's signings were told to just kick the ball in the forward direction. Whilst Becchio made the most of these, McCormack doesn't have the aerial presence, and Smith isn't experienced enough to do what Becchio could.trooper20 wrote:Problem is that Leeds aren't a counter attacking team. Also our best in form attacking players at this stage are probably Murphy, McCormack, Wickham and Smith. Which is possibly the reason he tried to fit all three strikers in against Burnley (which accumulated in a goal scored from a Wickham throw in, to a Smith header allowing McCormack to get on the end of). Ideally if two of your wingers aren't performing, you sub them for two other wingers who are desperate for a chance...whereas we've had to play in form players out of position.

As for Becchio.....McCormack has been prolific this season with Smith scoring quite a few too
Murphy is a better midfielder than any of the Warnock midfield signings
Mowatt has come out of the academy to earn a first team although i'm unconvinced he is ready yet for the hustle & bustle of the championship atm
Zaluikas was the best CB we signed in a long time until McDermott ditched him after one bad game
Butland & Wickham are both massive improvements on our previous signings, unfortunately BM is doing himself no favours by playing CW on the left wing....i can see another Ross Barkley scenario imminent !

Becchio and McCormack were both available to Warnock. Morison and McCormack were available to BMc. Warnock inherited a RMc coming off an 18 goal season and Becchio. Bmc inherited Rmc coming off a 5 goal season and a waste of space Morisson.faaip wrote:

Good thing some of you aren't actually in charge of a football club. Probably would've fired Don Revie and Sir Alex Rednose because they didn't produce immediate results. That said, if/when the Cellino clan officially comes into the club, think BMD will be gone before next season, unless there is some some spectacular turnaround the next 11 matches.
