Building for next season, who stays, who goes?

Post by Crude »

As I expect wholesale changes as Cellino chops a lot of deadwood from the rolls, who of the current set-up stays and who is given a bus ticket out of Leeds?

Current squad keepers:

- Kenny; still a plenty decent keeper for the Championship and PL. Don't know if Cairns is good enough, and if Butland is actually staying after the season?

- Bryam, Lees, Pearce, Žaliūkas, Warnock, Wootten: Think we can still get some good mileage out of this group, provided they can all stay healthy, especially Byram.

- Mowatt, Murphy, maybe Stewart, and some of the youths like Lenighan and Dawson.

- McCormack and Smith.

Btw, hope the current youth set-up stays as is. Redders, Naylor and staff have done a great job.

Including our 27 goal top of the scoring charts despite awful service and support Ross McCormack?

'fraid so... I believe this season is probably the best that he will ever achieve. And he is such a difficult player to build a team around...

Spot on Hector

Difficult to play any formation than 4-4-2, certainly can't play upfront on his own or in the hole !

Spends too much time drifting back into deep area's + he wants to take the majority of set-pieces/corners/penalties. He should be in the box as much as possible feeding off Smith's knock downs as any striker generally does.

Great season for Ross all the same

how can you say that when he has scored so many goals in all bloody positions this season he's been on the wing and been playing behind the front two, just imagine how he would do with some decent service and some decent players around him unlike bleeding Smith and Hunt.

Keep:

Byram
Wottoon
Lees
Mowatt, but get him to lose some weight!
Murphy
Chris Dawson
Lewis Walters
McCormack!

The rest can go for me. Not good enough!

Because he has lmitations.....our fans have Ross down as a legend which he certainly is not !

My above summary is correct IMO & I did say he has had a fantastic season but that doesn't mean Ross is the answer to our future success !

Yes he is the best of a bad bunch

You would keep Wooton and Lees ahead of Jason Pierce, Fu** Me :( based on that list you can't get to many games then can you,

Couldn't agree more mate, thought Pearce was a waste of oxygen last season but this year he has really put his body on the line and fought.

I'd definitely keep Byram, Mowatt and McCormack. The jury is out on a few others but most can go. :bear:
I'm going back to 505, I saw them at Sheffield and they were amazing.

If a remarkable bid came in for Ross McCormack from a Premier league club, I think he should go to give him a chance at the highest level and we would be getting good money for him. I think we'd become even more of a laughing stock if the media reported "Leeds United looking to sell 27-goal scoring captain Ross"...taking over the thrashing at Sheffield Wed, the hiring and firing of a manager in 24 hours and failing to pay our players their wages.

Nor can I relate to anyone who thinks an upheaval of players and manager will make us an instant success, or how one can slate all our players for lack of passion wearing a Leeds top, but assume that an influx of Italian players will.

That said, I think Cellino's gripe with English players is their above-average financial expectations and below-average performances. You can get better players in Europe for less than what English players of the same talent go for.

So I don't think Cellino is going to affect the youth setup, but rather than compliment the young signings with Tonge, Brown, Hunt or Kebe, we'll be seeing some of his scouting network targets brought in.

I'd keep Kenny, Pearce, Byram, Mowatt, Murphy, McCormack and Smith. All will have an impact to make over the coming season or two. Warnock and Brown show enough pride and passion when wearing the shirt but I think we need to have more of a view for the future.

He may not be the most talented footballer in the world but out of the shower who have worn the shirt this season he has shown real guts and passion.

Mowatt has struggled for months. Tbh the young un's such as Mowatt, Byram & Murphy are worth hanging onto but with the amount of Cellino's money floating around in the summer it is quite feasible we could have a better quality of player in every position in the first eleven come the start of 2014/15. Pearce, Murphy & McCormack have been our best players over the whole season but I'm not convinced Cellino will retain them !

Yes god help us if Cellino pins his faith in Lees & Wootton

Won't happen he has already openly said the players are a pile of dirge, he has witnessed what we've seen in just a few matches something us fans have suffered for two seasons

Brown, Austin and Diouff should be the first on the 'to-go' list.

I'd say Norris, Green, Morrison, Drury and Varney should be on the list before Brown.
