Re: Leeds v Accrington Stanley : Team/Reports/Ratings
I seriously believe because Hockady is a very low profile coach that he was employed to make it easier for Cellino to get the players he wished without having a high profile Manager telling Cellino " you know what you are doing?". Hassle free recruitment Cellino style, how many high profile Managers will put up with all this Italian based players coming in, Hockady is his puppet as soon as Cellino brings who he desires, Hockady is gone with the Transfer window closed, the next Manager will have to deal with what his got.
That is just what I reckon

I would like to echo this sentiment. I don't post often but I'm on here at least reading every day and it's always the doom and gloom and putting the team down. Now maybe this isn't the case. It'd be nice to see some positivity no matter how this has been eroded with the old regimes. This is a new era, we are being stabilised. Remember Rome wasn't built in a dayhibbi86 wrote:

Re: Leeds v Accrington Stanley : Team/Reports/Ratings
I can see what you are saying, but I think it has more to do with the fact of Hockaday being an unknown quantity. People are just unhappy because they believe it shows "lack of ambition" by appointing Hockaday, instead of a household name. This way, if he does fail, they can say "I told you so".hibbi86 wrote:

I personally think he is a smart guy and I can see what he wants to achieve. Whether that happens, remains to be seen. I am more than happy to let him have a crack and I am really looking forward to the televised match this weekend to get a good look at how far we have progressed since pre season.

Its hardly naive, take a look around you people are slamming the team and the coach when we have barely kicked a ball. You only have to look on the MOT forum to see that. Go on twitter and other social media sites and you will see it is rife.
We win and our second game and yet people are still castrating the coach and some of the players.
I wanted to jump off the Wolds flyer & walk home last night, our fans are not giving the new management/players time to bed in even though i believed i've witnessed more football played v Dundee & Accrington than the whole of last season.
Chesterfield were all over us like a rash in the cup last year & we were very fortunate to win, last night i thought we deserved our victory

I completely agree hibbi. The negativity on here by some posters is tiresome and draining, it's nonsense to say otherwise.hibbi86 wrote:

I don't know any Leeds fans masochistic enough to want the team to fail, or if they do then they are not true fans. What there are is a load of long-term Leeds fans desperate to see some success coming back to Elland Road and disappointed that the owner doesn't see the manager/coach as important enough to invest in.
Hockaday is not here because he is some kind of wunderkind coach, he is here because he was the cheapest option available, as we saw when Reading asked for compensation to release Cellino's original choice. (Forget the revisionism of the 5 hour meeting where he was offered the job, that is a rewriting of history).
cheap doesn't always mean poor quality....We got him cheap because he is unproven...we overpaid for the previous manager with a similar record bar one fluke third of a season...you do know you could once buy a Van Gogh for pennies?

Nice to read that we looked good in the first half last night, seems we need to be more clinical in front of goal, it seems we are playing an Italian style of football nice passing from back to front, the only thing with that system other than the obvious of having players who can pass, is you need a solid defence and a clinical striker, I would think Cellino more than anyone knows this, so if we can get another Central defender and quality striker we could just well be in with a chance.
With regard to the win, well done Hockafay for relegating Hunt to the bench, bad move bringing him on, unless you thougjt the game was won and you were giving him a last chance to show something, if so well done again, you now know what has to be done. Yes we probably made harder work of things than we should but it was never like the Revie team would lose to Peterborough or Wilko's lot would go a whole season without winning an away game or Graham's team would struggle to beat the likes of Walsall or the O'Leary allstars would rely on their goalkeeper getting an extra time winner because a strong team couldn't beat migjty Oxford without it and lets be fair Fergusson should never have kept his job when they lost at home to third division Leeds United.
Again well done on the win, onward and upwards.

Re: Leeds v Accrington Stanley : Team/Reports/Ratings
It has been the same for the past few seasons and I think goes hand in hand with the population of the internet and football manager games. Everyone thinks a team can go from playing one way to another seamlessly and that new signings can slot straight in and be great. Everyone is a better manager than the person who makes the actual decisions, every decision made that didn't actually happen is automatically the best decision and would go according to plan perfectly - life and football isn't like that.
The game was won, there was little in the way of danger. 2-0 in a meaningless cup against lower opposition. That is the right time to bring on a struggling striker who is in desperate need for a goal. If Hunt gets a goal then his confidence would return, he'd play better and perhaps gets 15 to 20 goals for us. I'm happy with that thinking, yes it didn't happen but the thinking behind it is good (picking him to start last Saturday however...).
It will take time for this team to adapt to not only a new style of play but to new faces. It is all very easy to say other teams have settled quicker etc etc but there are lots of different variables. The players at their club will have been playing for the manager for a while, the new players come in may have been playing that style etc etc. We have players that have been bought in previously by 1 of 3 different managers. So players have been brought in to play 1 of 3 different styles. The players who have done well over that time have been sold. Not 1 of those 3 managers played a possession type game. It takes time. With my Sunday side a few years back I had all the players saying to me they wanted to play possession football, we tried it over the summer and it was a disaster. So I scrapped it and instead focussed on us clearing the ball into a certain area of the pitch - out wide towards our main striker. We won the openign match of the season 6-0 against a team playing much better football than us. The striker scored 30 goals that season. You can only improve certain players so much and some players, especially those brought in by a hoofball manager, are never going to be able to adapt enough.
So all in all give the coach time, give the president and Salerno time to bring in the right players (instead of panic buys), give the players time. It won't happen overnight, same as booing Hunt when he steps onto the pitch won't make him play like Messi. I am confident in time this great club will move forward but also realistic to know it will take time. Cellino from the start has said it is not about this season and that is true, anything achieved this season would be a bonus. This team will develop and will be a good team, players will come and go, perhaps coaches too, but it will happen. We have a football man at the top and he is making sensible decisions.

Re: Leeds v Accrington Stanley : Team/Reports/Ratings
Our second competitive game saw us totally dominate Accrington for 65 minutes with some slick passing & good movement off the ball, a joy to watch after two seasons of dire football. For all the criticism Hock is receiving from our impatient fans he is the one who is instucting us to play in the correct manner, the opposition can't hurt you so much if we retain the ball for long periods of a game. There were matches last season where the likes of Chesterfield, Bournemouth, Charlton Yeovil to name four of the lesser sides we played had around 65% to our 35% possession of the ball which obviously put a strain on our fragile defence. We seem to lose our way somewhat when young Cook left the field of play to be replaced by the inept Hunt with 25 minutes to go, another sub quickly followed & i became immediately concerned whether we'd lose our momentum as the opposition only needed to score once to bring them back into the game which they did causing a nervy last ten minutes or so. Last season Chesterfield were all over us like a rash in this competition & we were fortunate to go through to the next round, last night we played well & deserved our victory
Taylor - 6 looks a sound second keeper
Berardi - 7 for his play reducing to 5 for his reckless red card offence
Pearce - 8 held our defence together
Wootton - 7 better last night although i suspect that will be his last match for a while, hope so !
Taylor - 7 another promising game from young Charlie, good going forward
Bianchi - 7 a intelligent player, can pass a ball long & short
Cook - 8 - a breath of fresh air this kid, showed for the ball and played it well, was everywhere and such a talent at just 17. His pass for the second goal was out of the McAllister/Sheridan school, he really could be the real deal, granted it was against Accrington Stanley but still looks one hell of a player.
Tonge - 7 playing our new style of football suits Tonge down to the ground
Ajose - 6 looks like he has something in his locker & more to come from this fella i reckon
Smith - 5 didn't look interested, missed a couple of opportunities, new style of play seems to pass Smith by
Doukara - MOTM for his goals which were the difference tonight. Both very calm finishes, reminds me of a JFH/Yeboah type of striker. Puts himself about which will go down well on the streets of LS11.
Subs :
Hunt - 1 woeful
Benedicic - 6 makes a change to see a player wearing black boots thesedays, looks a power-pack of a footballer, superb long pass to give Hunt his moment of glory but sadly he cocked up
Poleon - only on for last ten minutes
Taylor - 6 looks a sound second keeper

Re: Leeds v Accrington Stanley : Team/Reports/Ratings
Two points again, first one requires more emphasis but has been repeated often.
Being critical of something, supporting something and commenting on something on an internet forum are all mutually exclusive. One does not equate the other.
Can we stop referring to Hockaday as an unknown or unproven quantity. He is a known entity. We know he struggled at Forest Green. We could get Guardiola in the hotseat and call him unknown if it made us feel better. Most are saying, if we had someone with more successful experience at the passing game and Cellino's backing, we'd have a much better chance. Hockaday is not a big name but he is not unproven. We don't need a big name, but it would be nice to have someone who had a history of making the passing game work.
In spite of point 2, I will refer to point 1 and get behind the team. Just like, for example, I would support Hunt as a striker, but would be alot more content and optimistic in my support if it was Messi. I highly doubt Hockaday reads this forum for my comments to have some sort of butterfly effect on how Leeds perform and therefore, as point 1 indicates, these comments are in no means relevant to support. However, if some of you feel that your self-proclaimed positive comments correlate with you being a better supporter, then that is a nice mindset to have. If you keep it to yourself.
