Re: O/T: The NFL thread with some baseball thrown in
I knew this thread was in here somewhere...
Apologies for reawakening it, but with the season mere weeks away from beginning who do you think are your team to make a run for the superbowl this year?
I may be biased but I honestly think based on what I'm hearing from behind the scenes that our defense has actually improved and the Green Bay Packers will be making their way back there as long as we can keep our key people injury free.

The Bengals have made some good picks in the draft, and with Geno Atkins coming back, our defense will be even better than next year. Now, if only Dalton could get his act together....
I think the Seahawks are still favourites though.

The new contact laws may work against the seahawks, difficult schedule too. Very tough division. Love Wilson though
The Steelers have a cakewalk schedule and should break 10 games comfortably without breaking a sweat. Shazier is gonna be a superstar...was a draft day steal.
The Eagles are doing nothing but brilliance behind the scenes..great O line, very good QB, and they got, for me, the best receiver in the draft, this is how you run a franchise.
Broncos will be there or there abouts, Patriots are a declining power but could still make a run this year. Niners look a frayed around the edges, not buying Kaepernick at the moment and Crabtree is not the same player..
Saints are the team to topple the Seahawks this year...Great of-season and what should be a top 5 D now in place..
Bears and Packers have very good offenses, both should make the playoffs
Rams are dark horses, another great D being built there..Donald is a beast. Colts are dangerous if they can find a running game
Browns, Texans, Raiders, Giants and maybe the Cowboys will pick in the first 5 next year, Lolphins also look poor.
Cards, Chargers, Panthers, should regress and I think the Bengals will grab a WC spot in the playoffs

Re: O/T: The NFL thread with some baseball thrown in
oh and Manziel will bust, he looked appalling in pre-season2 ...Bridgewater looks the best of the rookies. Bortles needs more time and Carr hopefully won't see the field either this season. Garopollo is the real deal, but again might not start a game for 4 years.
For fantasy purposes Cooks, Matthews and Evans are the stand out receivers..Watkins is there or there abouts talent wise but that's EJ throwing the ball and looking awful. Don't over draft Watkins unless it's a dynasty
Rookie Running back prospects are as clear as mud for re-draft purposes. West is worth a flier, he's NFL ready, Hyde an excellent handcuff for Gore, get one make sure you get the other...don't overpay for either. I would have liked to have seen more of Sankey in preseason. If he runs with the 1's this weekend that will allay my fears somewhat..
deep sleepers...that's a fragile line up in front of Zirlon Tipton at the colts...he's a good running back, I'll add Taliaferro too.
Dri Archer has surprisingly been riding with the 1's in preseason, Pittsburgh like him and he is a playmaker...his value could be even higher in PPR because I can see him used in the passing game and would make a decent spot start with a high ceiling in bye weeks
Devin Street looks NFL ready and I'm not buying Terrence Williams..that one could bite me on the arse though, Street has good size and great technical skills, just not breakaway speed...Moncrief has all the talent in the world..not sure how much playing time he'll get this season though.
Mohammed Sanu is currently going very late. Marvin Jones is injured. do the math

Re: O/T: The NFL thread with some baseball thrown in
The media darling Manziel will definitely be a bust on the NFL. His skill set just wont translate against big fast defensive players. I'll be happy when I don't have to hear about him on every single channel, but I suspect another tebow in the making.faaip wrote:oh and Manziel will bust, he looked appalling in pre-season2 ...Bridgewater looks the best of the rookies. Out of the rookie receivers fantasy-wise I'm looking towards Kelvin Benjamin to have a good season, there aren't enough options in Carolina for him not to imo.
I have the 1st pick in on of my leagues and its so difficult to choose at the top, thinking lesean McCoy T the minute afterthinking about Jamaal Charles and what he did for me last year, but theres lingering foot issues. Going to pick up knile Davis in the late rounds regardless. He seems like a pretty decent player if Charles goes down.

Also I feel like the broncos will be good this year, but I think manning is trending downwards. Hes struggling getting the weight behind his throws and he needs these new emphasis on pass interference to really help him out. I hope the penalties die down before the season starts I like a bit of hitting!faaip wrote:Broncos will be there or there abouts, Patriots are a declining power but could still make a run this year. Re: O/T: The NFL thread with some baseball thrown in
Hey guys,
I struggled to find an NFL thread, so revived this one.
I know Faaip is a Raiders fan.
I follow Washington, and they are just dogshit.
Young QB in Sam Howell, and a dreadful O line, so it's a sack festival for the opposition D every match. Howell takes forever holding on to the ball, and the O line is just waving everyone through to him.
For draft first round D line, they continually under perform.
Ron Rivera and Jack Del Rio will be relieved of their jobs at the end of the season, and that can't come soon enough for me.
It's painful to watch this garbage.
I started watching NFL in the early 80s and the Skins were awesome with Joe Gibbs, Joe Theisman, Art Monk, Charles Mann, Dexter Manley, Darrell Green and Gary Clark.
This is horrible

Re: O/T: The NFL thread with some baseball thrown in
Crikey, Riot a 9yr thread exhumation.
Is that a record ?
Whilst I'm not really into the NFL or American sports in general if I had to pick one NFL team it would probably be the Steelers, if for no other reason than I can remember them as one of the first teams I saw on World of Sport in the 70's.
The only game I've seen live was one of those Wembley games, back in 1990 - Saints v Raiders.
Over-riding memory - the Raiders Cheerleaders easily won the contest !

Aren’t we supposed to be ‘49ers’ fans in American Football

Steelers were the guys in the 70s, and won 4 Superbowls if I remember rightly.
Recently personified by Ben Rothlesburger at QB.
Mahomes at KC and Joe Burrow at Cincinnati are the two young exciting QBs I enjoy watching now.

A Raider fan supporting the Niners, however temporarily, is like a Leeds fan migrating to Manure or Chelsea for a whileBarlow Boy wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 7:18 pm Aren’t we supposed to be ‘49ers’ fans in American Football![]()

I used to follow the Raiders ( only now and then as wasn't a big fan of American football ) but now I'm a big Philadelphia Eagles fan. Have to be otherwise my American friends would disown me and beat me badly.

I'm a Packers fan.
Got to see them in a pre-season game in the last century - been a fan ever since. Having Favre and Rodgers kept it entertaining and interesting.
I bought a share during the last raise in 2013 so I'm officially an owner
Low expectation this season and we are in rebuild mode for a year or two. Hopefully Jordan Love comes good.

They've had a great start to the season and should be involved well into the playoffs.
Play entertaining football and are easy on the eye.
