I found this video on Youtube and it concentrates on a Leeds home game with Millwall.
It is interesting from the police point of view, with cameras and spotters. It is quite
horrifying the amount of planning that goes on from both sets of fans, and what the police have
to do to circumvent violence. The expense of these operations must be colossal.

These people are not fans, they are colossal assholes. They should be in prison.

This action was filmed in Feb 2009, and so is almost historic.

The last few years Millwall have had to collect tickets at a service station on the M1, and have only brought a few fans, about 150 last time if memory serves. The only time there is trouble now is down at the Den, where the local heroes love picking off anyone on their own, with a bit of assistance from the police!

Hmmm I don't know, a lot of people I know am have been involved in this.
And it's not to say there bad folk, some are granted!

The only time I've ever kicked off was few year ago against Everton in the cup.
Wednesday night game just wanted to get home, they let 5,000 of them out at the same time. They had a problem with West Yorkshire police about hillsborough, even though it's South Yorkshire police.

Try to get past themm, police lines broke and a scouser ran up to me a spat, hit me right on the chest.

Wasn't putting up with that.

Yeah, we were there that night too, young idiots none more than twenty, fronting up to the police and yelling "You killed our mates"......... check it boys, you weren't even alive, never mind mates of those who died!

All I wanted to do was go home, was knarked, had work next day.

Wolfetoneleeds: What happened to you was different. It's one thing to defend yourself. It's another thing entirely to go to a game, not because you want to enjoy the game, but because you're looking for a brawl.

It was the cost of the whole operation that astonished me.
50,000 for the police, cameras, spotters, helicopter and then
another 10,000 for the wrecked buses.

Who pays for that... the club, the taxpayer, the county council.
That is a huge bill to pay if you have to do that on a regular basis.
No wonder Cellino has conflicts with the police over payment of bills.

Then there is the broader issue of cameras being used to target
hooligans, but once the technology is in place could it be used
against political dissidents or religious groups?

It already is - all of us who marched against the Iraq war were quite openly filmed by the police.

I have submitted some of my Photos to Getty Images they sell them and I get some
sort of commission, a percentage of the sale. A few of my photos have been of public places
and they have asked me to get a waiver from the owners of the property before they
would accept the photo ( it was a snow scene of a WC in the forest ) I did not know where to turn to.
Similarly they were very stringent about street photography. You have to get release forms
for folks you have casually snapped in the street, so it cannot be viewed as an infringement
of privacy.

also apply to the police, or is it as it has always been, one law for the rich and another
law for the poor.

The police are above the law. In fact it is an offence under the anti-terrorism act to take any photo that includes a police officer or member of the armed forces, consent or not.

Tell that to the 1000's of pics that enter facebook every weekend with some drunk lad or lass stood next to a policeman/woman smiling away hahaha.

As an ex member of the White Helmets display team, my photo must have been taken thousands of times.
As must the current teams...
All serving members of the Army..

Think it is a bit difficult to police that no photo rule somehow...

Seems to me anyone involved should be punished, that is those involved in arranging or agitating.

Took a photo of a cop at Leicester once having been lined up against a wall outside after the game for no apparent reason. He asked "What Are You Doing". I replied "Taking a photo of you taking a photo of me". He then whacked me with his truncheon. Biggest hooligans at football matches are the police.
