I'm a little shocked too but very happy, hopefully a few more things will get sorted and we can kick on from there.
Are we still under a transfer embargo?

I am both surprised and delighted by this news. Given the turmoil at the club over the final weeks of the season, and the uncertainty over Redders' future, I feared that young Lewis would be plying his trade elsewhere next season. Not that that couldn't still happen, of course, but I'm choosing to see this as a positive. Nice one, Lewis, and well done MC (if he was involved).

My shock being we are told that anything that comes out of MC's mouth is at best fantasy and at worst a flat out lie...

Positive step, if you had to choose one between byram or mowatt to stay who would you choose

If we don't bring anyone in, then Byram as he's our best wide-right player and we have a bit of cover in the middle.

Hopefully this is a sign of intent though and the others are soon to follow...

Great news!

get the other young en's signed up on extensions! personally for me Cook and Mowatt have been Key id personally say more cook than Mowatt. Even though Mowatt has been getting the goals and the assists Cook's tenacity in the center of the park has been the driving force behind our team with Murphy one side and Mowatt the other we have a middle 3 of quality and bags of potential.
Forever and ever we shall follow are team, because we're Leeds United we rule supreme!

Massimo Cellino has told Leeds United's official site that he wants to keep the core of the squad together this summer.

Leeds have built their success around the talents of their youth products this season and Cellino is adamant that he has no interest in cashing in on any of his prized youngsters.

Instead he wants to build around the likes of Alex Mowatt, Sam Byram, Charlie Taylor and Lewis Cook, as the club look to move forward.

“My hope is for him [Cook] to stay at Leeds for a long time and continue growing with Mowatt, Byram, Taylor and the others. We don’t want to sell," Cellino said.

“My plan for this club is to grow, not to sell our best young players. I have a lot of trust in the young players here. It is a special place for them and it has been for many years."

Cook signed a new two-year-contract this afternoon and Cellino was understandably delighted to have the 18-year-old's future secured.

“Lewis Cook deserves his new contract, he was one of the most exciting players last season.

“I knew we had a wonderful talent when I first saw him in the summer. At first, I thought he was much older than he was. He plays like he has lots of experience.

“Signing Lewis Cook is a good way to start the summer. We must be truly ready for the new season."

Cook also had time to celebrate the deal on social media site Twitter soon after signing his contract.

Hopefully Cellino's words will shut many of our fans up who have insisted he'll flog all our best players in the summer

This man is not Ken Bates !

Outstanding talent, and now to get the man who brought him in to the squad (and not the one claiming to have) to get tied into a new contract, then on to Byram and Mowatt, and we'll be at a good place.

Just to remind people though, this has very little to do with regards of intention to sell and more to do with making sure we get a bit more money if the Premier League teams do declare interest.

So sensible business practise then?

If we get a great offer then sadly it makes sense to sell, much like with Southampton selling, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlian and Bale. Money coming in pays the wages, makes it easier to strengthem the squad in a few areas etc. Until we get into the premiership the vultures can and will always circle.

Exactly my point, just people are talking like this guarantees Cook to be here for the upcoming season and I'm just pointing out that it's nothing of the sort. A 1 year contract at our wages is probably an extra million or two added to his value, nothing for Premier League clubs. Would love more than anything for Cook to be here, but yes I do understand the financial implications of selling him.

Amazing how this thread has gone from joy at Cook resigning to, "well it's just so we can get a few extra bob for him when the Prem come calling" maybe the forum should be renamed to marching on pessimistically together? Seriously though he's young and his value is only going to increase, Cellino has no reason to sell. I could only see it happening if a McCormack like offer comes in, the odds of that being pretty astronomical.

I've said it before, I'm over the moon that Cook has decided to sign up with us. From a club point of view, this was a necessity that should have been done along time ago for all our youth players. A lot to happen this window, a lot of good and bad things will inevitably occur, and a lot of making up ground has to be done. A one-year contract extension to one of the hottest prospects in England is the least I would expect... perhaps I'm asking too much?

It would be naive, given our recent history and our status, to believe that Lewis signing a contract extension means he will definitely be here next season. MC says we don't have to sell, but if a RMC offer comes in, I don't think we could turn it down. Maybe we could, and maybe MC will give the vultures the bird, but we're still vulnerable if some of the big boys come calling

Transfer embargo has been lifted!

Was expected anyway, but at least being lifted this early in the season ensures we have ample time to get planning in place without having to pay the inflated prices as the windows draws to a close.

Let's get the coach situation sorted soon, and really start planning for next season
