Monday's Breakfast Debate - What changes would you make ?
After yet another calamity jane moment from our No.1, do we need to make a change in that department. Silvestri was guilty of errors last season however you have to consider he had two clowns Bamba & Bellusci playing in front of him whom contributed to much of the mayhem too. Marco has been very impressive when given the opportunity between the sticks this season, MOTM twice. Surely with the current defence in front of him Silvestri will look a better keeper. Thoughts?
Is Roofe good enough ? I'm still unconvinced. Is it time to bring Dallas back ?
Surely Bridcutt & Hernandez are certain starters when fit again or are they ?

Yes, we do. Green was a good keeper, but he has become error-prone and is costing us points. Silvestri deserves a chance and I believe he will be much more confident with a solid CH pairing in front of him. If Monk doesn't rate Marco, then he needs to find another keeper.
Is Roofe good enough ? I'm still unconvinced. Is it time to bring Dallas back ?
Thought he had a good game yesterday, possibly his best in a Leeds shirt. Still adapting to life in the Championship, but there's a good player in there. Dallas is used to the level required in this league, but putting him back in then stalls Roofe's development. A tricky one!
Surely Bridcutt & Hernandez are certain starters when fit again or are they ?
Yes, without doubt. Missed both yesterday, might have been a different outcome if they had started.

Bamba, like Bellusci, like Green, like Silvestre etc all had the capabilities to have good games and then make ridiculous errors resulting in goals. As much as I don't see Silvestre as the answer it is hard to justify leaving him out given his performance v Norwich and Green's error yesterday.
Is Roofe good enough ? I'm still unconvinced. Is it time to bring Dallas back ? Has Roofe done any more or less than Dallas? I certainly don't recall any standout performances from Dallas this season. More concerning for me is Doukara starting - 'puts in a shift' is not the answer.

Sacko Bridcutt O'Kane Hernadez Dallas give us much more experience & a solid look. Only one of those five played, the Geordies were left off the hook unfortunately

Re: Monday's Breakfast Debate - What changes would you make ?
I would certainly give Silvestri a run, done well when he's been in and he would undoubtedly look a better keeper given the back 4 he has in front of him now. Just don't see Monk dropping Green as I'm not sure if he feels the same about Marco, shame, in my opinion as I think he has the potential to be a very good keeper. If that is the case though we do need another keeper in January as Greeno will keep costing us.
Bridcutt and Hernandez straight back in for me when fit, think I would also go for Dallas over Roofe as well, not that Roofe has done badly but it has proved to be a big step up and I don't think easing him in is a bad thing. Other change I would make is starting Sacko rather that Doukara, offers us real pace - something we don't have a lot of around the rest of the side.

Re: Monday's Breakfast Debate - What changes would you make ?
Bridcutt alongside O'Kane would have made a difference, Leon, and maybe Sacko instead of Doukara. But, again, I thought Roofe did alright yesterday. that said, i suspect Monk will go with the tried and tested Dallas (who I like) when he's fit again.1964white wrote:Our midfield was feeble & where we lost the yesterday, sadly men against boys

Couldn't agree more NW, no pace at all in the first 30 minutes yesterday when we gave the Geordies too much respect looking slow & sluggish. Needed to get at them from the word go !NorfolkWhite wrote:I would certainly give Silvestri a run, done well when he's been in and he would undoubtedly look a better keeper given the back 4 he has in front of him now. Sacko, Bridcutt, O'Kane Hernandez, Dallas is the way to go when fully fit
Phillips, Vieira, Roofe are clearly bit-part players this season for me & Doukara is nowhere near as dangerous as Sacko whom frightens defenders when he runs at them

Silvestri may come back in, but with Pontus suspended, Monk may want to keep defensive changes to a minimum, and stick with Green. He certainly needs to look at the keeper situation in January, as it is by no means certain that Silvestri will still be here and Green is not the answer long term.
Is Roofe good enough ? I'm still unconvinced. Is it time to bring Dallas back ?
We keep saying that Roofe needs to adapt to the Championship, but how long is this going to take. He has had a fairly lengthy run as a starter, and contributed very little. Dallas or Sacko back for me against Rotherham.
Surely Bridcutt & Hernandez are certain starters when fit again or are they ?
The simple answer to that is yes, we are missing them badly.

I think we need to show some serious ambition in January and bring back Alex McCarthy either permanently or on loan we won't get a better opportunity than the one we have now (as Alex isn't playing at Southampton). Green is similar to Mignolet at Liverpool and could cost us a lot of points by the time the season has finished.
Is Roofe good enough ? I'm still unconvinced. Is it time to bring Dallas back ?
Roofe is good enough for the championship in my opinion but needs to be playing in his best position, at the end of the day Roofe still has 3 assists to his name than Dallas who has 0 goals or assists this season and hasn't scored or assisted a goal for Leeds since the 23rd April. Dallas is a good player to have vs the likes of Newcastle as he will track back and help our full backs against the better wingers, vs Rotherham, however, I think a more attacking winger will be better.

I recall his assist at Hillsborough.
Which goals were Roofe's other two assists ?
Was there one v Norwich in the cup ?

It took 18 months to two years for Beckford to adapt....and I seem to remember Gradel started slow...patience folks and we'll be rewarded with a top player in this division...if not then we'll be cursing when he's banging in the goals against us.

His 3 assists:
1 vs Sheffield Wednesday
1 vs Luton in the cup turned and passed to Tyler Denton
1 vs Blackburn in the cup when he crossed to Wood
Also played a big part in the following goals as well (they weren't classed as assists though)
vs Norwich in the cup for the first goal
vs Wolves forcing an own goal

Re: Monday's Breakfast Debate - What changes would you make ?
It's not really such a good idea to chop and change your goalkeeper without a good reason as they are important to underrstanding communication amongst a back line. Before Newcastle and Norwich we had conceeded just 6 goals in the previous 10 games, I would argue that Green has had alot of protection from Bartley and Jansson in front of him but Green's communication can't be overlooked. I'd stick with Green for now, though if he makes another error and Silvestri has another good cup performance I might rethink.
Roofe should be given a go at no.10 if Hernandez remains out. That was the position he played at Oxford where he showed the form that encouraged us to buy him in the first place. Neither Phillips nor Vieira are the answer there and Mowatt seems to be out of favour completely. Roofe, Phillips and Vieira are all developing this season so therefore should be bit-part players, we're a little unfortunate atm to have all the injuries we do. Going forward our first choice midfield should be:
Bridcutt O'Kane
Sacko Hernandez Dallas

Never been a fan of Green as a starter. Give Silvestri time with Bartley and Jansson in front of him, and he'll do great.1964white wrote:After yet another calamity jane moment from our No.1, do we need to make a change in that department. Roofe is a project, was a bit surprised he got the start, but did okay. But we needed a player like Dallas against Newcastle to start. With Sacko on the other side.
Hernandez and Bridcutt both straight back in when ready.

100% agree, the whole purpose of 4-2-3-1 is for the 3 behind Wood to attack Dallas and Doukara too defensive and not good enough for a 4-2-3-1 in my opinion, I don't want to see our wingers running back into their own half and trying to win the ball back leave it to Eunan and Bridcutt (when he is back).weasel wrote: Is Roofe good enough ? Re: Monday's Breakfast Debate - What changes would you make ?
For me I would play Roofe off Wood while Henandez is out.
I would also start Dallas and let Taylor bomb forwards.
I would stick by Green for the Rotherham match (Always back a player after a mistake) but Silvestri would play at Liverpool and baring a disaster I would then give him a run in the side.

Every game I predict a 3 - 1 Leeds win, I am traditional like that.
