What did we learn from last nights victory?
Simply this... a radio commentator who is on
a diet of salad can make a 5-1 victory
sound like a defeat.

Noel Whelan was certainly upset with the first-half performance & the attitude of some of the players. Our defending was generally poor throughout the whole of the game, Newport could have scored five themselves so the 5-1 scoreline doesn't suggest we won in a canter!rab_rant wrote:What did we learn from last nights victory?

Only Roofe, Ayling, Dallas & the magnificent Saiz seem to come out of the game with any credit

Not surprised that Roofe scored goals against Newport, he can do it at that level but certainly aint going to do it at Championship level......unfortunately

We should be demolishing teams ike Newport (No disrespect to them) 5-1
But do you know what, we haven't done it in recent seasons, not for a long time. Good to see. We'll just forget about the first half though?

McAllister & Monk go down in history as the only two Leeds managers to be beaten by a non-league team. I'll never forgive Monk for spoiling a very expensive day out for a minority of us Leeds fans, even less so now he's at Boro', all down to his spat with MC

Yes Roofe took his goals well but has he found his level? We'll have to wait & see if he can produce an abundance of goals in the championship, I reserve Judgement !60sUnited wrote:Not surprised that Roofe scored goals against Newport, he can do it at that level but certainly aint going to do it at Championship level......unfortunately

Wonder who predicted a Roofe hatrick in the prediction forum?
That said, he took them well, and was in the right place at the right time against some horrific defending.

Might just give him the confidence that he perhaps needs, it would be good if it does. We can hope60sUnited wrote:Not surprised that Roofe scored goals against Newport, he can do it at that level but certainly aint going to do it at Championship level......unfortunately

Agree Shields, we've been very poor against lower league opposition, especially as 64 mentions the disgraceful 'team' selection and performance against Sutton. It is very good to see us beat these teamsShields53 wrote:We should be demolishing teams ike Newport (No disrespect to them) 5-1

Re: Leeds v Newport - Team,News,Reports & Ratings
If you consider the team selection v Sutton and then the team selected last night you could certainly draw comparisons especially given the youth players thrown in. The Sutton fiasco showed how just because some players are youth prospects and some are on the fringes of the first team they are not necessarily good enough to just turn up and win. What we learnt last night however is important and for me the biggest thing learnt was that TC seems to be able to get the right instructions across at half time and more importantly the players act on his half time talk. We also saw that the team had the ability and character to step up a gear and show their class.
The match itself would have been very useful to TC as he would have seen which of his fringe players have the ability and desire to be in the first choice XI. As for what the match told us about the players and it is probably little. Sounds like Green made some good save but his rustiness probably contributed to the sloppy goal conceded and Roofe showed he can score v League 2 opposition, but we already knew that so nothing learnt there but perhaps it will give him a confidence boost.
So we move on and back to TC picking his strongest team for the Forest match and another match in the cup.
