Re: Song Of The Day - Post up your song for today folks !
Well, I started out with one long dollar
Gambled with the man and I won me another
I bought me a gun and I robbed my brother
I'm bad, but I don't care boys, I'm gonna be a million-aire
Well, I hopped on a ship and we sailed on the waves
Dealt in rum and we dealt in slaves
Left my captain to a watery grave.
He's gone, but I don't care, I'm gonna be a millionaire
How many of you wanna see me dead?
How many of you wanna have my head?
How many of you just live your lives?
Wishing you were me boys, wishing you were me?
Well, I married rich, a pretty little wife
Brought her misery every day of her life
She slit her wrist with a silver knife
You can't blame that on me boys, her money belongs to me
Well, I found myself in a good position
To buy myself some cheap politicians
Bought myself a big election
That's just how it went boys, now I own the president
How many of you wanna see me dead?
How many of you wanna have my head?
How many of you just live your lives?
Wishing you were me boys, wishing you were me?
When you say your prayers down on your knees
Ask the Lord, forgive you, please
If it crosses your mind say one for me
I know where I'm bound boys, I know where I'm bound

Not sure why it didn't embed.
If you fancy trying some more, I'd recommend the albums, Feast of Wire, Algiers and Carried to Dust. The sound varies from alt-country, tex-mex, jazz, rock, soundscape, but it's all based on really good, bittersweet song writing. The new album is quite dancy, which I'm still getting used to.

Rab, have you ever heard of Kimmo Pohjonen ?
I was having at the look at the CD's in a charity shop at lunch time today and someone with the world musical taste of Andy Kershaw seemed to have donated their CD collection as there was stuff from Africa, Asia, Cuba, Brazil, Paraguay and Kluster by Kimmo Pohjonen. Had never heard of it, but noticed he/they were from Finland.
You don't see many Finnish artist CD's in Pontypridd !!

He is an avant garde accordion player. A bit of a virtuoso. I think he has done
some Hendrix on accordion, and has also made music with farmyard equipment.
I went to a concert of his at the Savoy theatre in Helsinki. He has a habit of dressing
up like a tibetan monk or a samurai warrior when performing. THe performances
are always energetic and when he introduces Shamanic influences from Lapland
they can be frightening because something spiritual from another world is going on.
as though he is berating the audience or putting a curse on them, yet at other times
he will perform singing in tongues and it can be very moving like at the end of
Bright Shadow An acquired taste I would say.

He is into audience participation and generating excitement at his concerts.Muppet the Cat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 08, 2019 6:16 pm Ummm…..I see what you mean, different (but each to their own) and very much an acquired taste
At the one I went to he strode to the right of the stage and a spotlight shone on him
from above. He was playing like a maniac and suddenly the spotlight snapped onto
someone on the audience who shot out of their seats in fright.
He then moved center stage and the whole thing was repeated. You can imagine the tension
that was generated as everybody was stealing themselves for the spotlight being shot down
on them.
He then moved to the left and I could have sworn the barrage of words in an unknown tongue
that was flowing out of him seemed to be directly focused on me. I could feel my palms sweating
and folks all around me were rigid in their seats with white knuckles waiting for that flash of light
to descend on them... perhaps he wanted to provoke a response... I decided if it fell my lot
to be hit by the spotlight, I would stand up and give him a right old tongue lashing.
But it fell apon a petrified woman a few rows in front of me. You could hear and audible gasp
of relief around her from the people who had been let off from having the light shone on them.
Quiet the experience. I think he was trying to play God, and the spotlight was the light of judgement.
Not your usual concert. It stirred up your emotions and raised up philosophical thoughts.
Nobody left the theatre unmoved. Perhaps good art does that to you.
