Very impressive start from your Hampshire boys

Yorks one win, one tied & a loss by one run.....not so impressive !

We're set up to win 1 day games, we seem to have little interest in winning the longer form.

Right now I believe this is the most MOT members we've had into cricket since I first joined the forum. I'm counting seven so far & we always have our nightwatchman Hector ready for a knockabout

We did go to the Oval once, and I saw Geoff Boycott.
One of my sporting heroes Sara, as a kid I had the pleasure of seeing Geoff play in that great 60's Yorkshire team at Headingley several times.

My wife can't stand Geoff Boycott :(

In my mid-forties now and have been hooked on watching the game since my school days. I'm a bit of a purist though and it's all about test matches and the CC for me. Really can't do with the smash and slog of 20/20. And I've heard there is 10/10 around the corner. No thanks. Not that I can remember much about it but the first match I ever went to with our kid was the 4th Ashes test at Headingley in 93. Australia clinched the series in that test and there was the great Alan Border lifting the Ashes before my very eyes. They made 653/4 in their first innings with Border 200 not out. The Waugh twins, David Boon, Merv Hughes were all in that side back then and they took us to pieces. We gave Merv Hughes plenty of stick from the Western Terrace and I remember him been a great sport giving us plenty of laughs.

I do love following Yorkshire in the CC though and went to a fair few games when we won the back to back titles however due to work commitments I can only take in a few days of cricket each year usually on a bank holiday or weekends. I'm mostly listening to the ball by ball commentary on the BBC. Was absolutely devastated to learn of Dave Callaghan's passing early last year though. My summer's just not the same now without Cally and his dulcet tones. It's taking a while to get over. RIP Cally.

Unpopular I know but I love every aspect of the game. Test matches are my fave though, especially when they manage to last five days. One day matches next then T20. Don't think I'd bother with 10/10 though, the game would be over before I got up in time to switch the telly on!

Anonymous wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2019 8:07 pm I'm so out of touch. The last full test I watched was the 2005 Ashes. I had about three months in between jobs, and my friend had a telly in her conservatory, so I went round there to watch it.

Neither she nor her two lads had ever watched cricket before. They started off just glancing at it as they passed through into the house or garden, then began asking the score and noticing particular players; after a couple of days they were hooked.
I remember the 2005 ashes series well Sarah. The first test was at the beginning of our Sailing holiday. We were sailing from Ipswich to St Katherine dock on the river Thames. We left the river Orwell and sailed 10 hours to a place called Queenborough, just inside the river Medway. You have to pick up a buoy there and wait overnight for the flood tide to the Thames. It's the same on the way back, so follow the ebb of the Thames for 7 hours back to Queenborough for a night. Anyway, we called for a lunchtime drink at a pub and the first day of the first test was happening. We were watching on TV in the pub. Kevin Peterson was batting and he instantly became one of my faves. We listened to the rest of the test on radio 5 live during the rest of our holiday.
The next three tests we watched at home, but then came the fifth, and it just so happened that we were holidaying on the boat once more! Arghhhh! So, once again radio 5 live came into play. We ended up in a little place called Brightlingsea, just off the Essex coast. We couldn't believe the excitement of this test, so having had radio 5 up until the last day we paraded through this little place looking for a pub with a telly showing the cricket. What an advert for cricket that last day was....Freddie Flintoff....and I remember him going over to Brett Lee to console him. What a sporting moment that was.
I suppose I've prattled on a bit there.....but it was just such an amazing coincidence that we on our sailing hols for the very first day and tha very last day of that incredible test, and managed to get to see both days cricket.
DAB radio came out and that was the end of our radio cricket....or so I thought. Mr Swan had only gone and bought me a DAB for the boat so I could listen to a very beleagured, underfire but brave Alistair Cook lead his troops out to rapturous applause at the Ageas Bowl in 2014..... :)

What a great man Dave was, he was well-respected by all the cricket counties

Had the pleasure of saying hello to Cally on one of my visits to Headingley three years ago

Another tie for Yorkshire

Skipper Billy Godleman hit his third One-Day Cup hundred in six days as Derbyshire's game with Yorkshire ended in a tie.

Godleman made an unbeaten 107 off 62 balls as they chased a revised target of 225 from 22 overs at Headingley.

But needing two runs for victory from the final ball, they could only run a bye and their run-chase ended on 224-3.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore (79), Adam Lyth (78) and David Willey (72 not out) earlier led the home side to 308-2 before rain.

It was Yorkshire's second tie of the competition, with their game against Warwickshire at Edgbaston a week earlier ending with the same result.

I watched the game until rain stopped play. Didn't think that there would be more cricket. Might try and catch highlights if there are any
