Supertramp - Crime of the Century.
I've owned this since the seventies...which is probably the last time I played it, no inclination to play it again because I reach for "Paris" if I want to listen to Supertramp. Because it's come up here I just flicked through most tracks, sounds thin compared to Paris, less energy and urgency. Paris for me made it expendable
I bought Crime on vinyl once in around 75/76, and only once. I bought Paris three times on vinyl, once on cassette and updated on CD
half

Supertramp.
First time I heard this 1976, we were playing football on the park, there were a group of girls playing cassettes at the side of the pitch, when we finished playing, we went over to them and CotC was playing, I loved it immediately, went out that weekend and bought the vinyl, love it now as much as I did then. 5
REM
Another album, we played lots but with this one, played to a point where I think we over did it, can't remember the last time I played it. Green is my favourite REM album. 4

That's me in the corner.
This was the first REM album it took me a long time to love, it was a slow relationship, the hit singles kind of helped but even so it took an awful long time to allow it to be what I now accept it be.
A bloody good album
The reason it took me so took me so long to come around to the confident, optimistic, singalong, mandolin driven Out of Time is because it such a departure from what I was used to. Such a departure from Green, which was my REM template, how would it measure up to it? Because Green was so loved I persisted with OOT, beyond those first few spins. Probably the single success helped but I remember back in the day I worked in a warehouse on nightshift this was one of those albums that got me through after Bob Harris at 4AM.
Almost poetry at times with the spoken words on Low and Belong, the singalongs in Shiny and Losing my Religion. But it all starts with those opening chords of Radio Song.
And it keeps on getting better.
and a half.
Re added to my music player.
Thanks for the reminder.

REM - Out Of Time
This was the first REM album that I didn't love. At all. Green was so so, Document was fine, the first four were great. Their originality gave way to commercialism, and that was the end of that.

Supertramp - Crime Of The Century
Supertramp are one of those bands that I quite like if I hear on the radio, but not enough to consider buying an album. Listening to this confirms that view; there is some good songwriting, but I can only take the squeaky vocal and tinkling piano for so long.

REM - Out Of Time
I bought the vinyl copy of this back in the day and so have dug it out for a spin this evening and it's probably the first time I've played the album in full for getting on 20yrs - which says a lot.
I was never into REM and have nothing prior to this LP. I think I largely bought the album on the back of Losing My Religion.
Aside from LMR my favourite track remains 'Texarkana'
Overall a

Supertramp - Crime of the Century
Not an owner of anything by Supertramp, other than a couple of the hits off BiA on my iPod.
I'm afraid this didn't really prompt me to a change that.

Bit slow off the mark with your two I'm afraid 64. However,
The Delines - have given it a few listens and I'm afraid I am struggling to see what you and Hector are raving about here.
So only I'm afraid.
Wishbone Ash - these completely passed me by first time round in the 70's. However, this is a bit of a grower and some of the guitar work/sound is really good -
As an aside, a few years ago a chap at work got up on stage to play with WA at a gig in The Pop Factory in Porth (an old place that was the Hills Lemonade Factory in Porth, Rhondda that they converted to a music based hub use). He's in a local band who were asked to open up for WA that night.

Wishbone were one of the great live guitar bands I saw on many occasions. Sorry any rating under 4 for their first three albums is ridiculous
Supertramp were the best live band i saw, their sound was absolute perfection, no long over-blown guitar or drum solos thankfully

Do I detect the poor scores allocated to the Delines album is down to their country feel, mellow vocals & no crashing guitars?

Not from me, I like the Country,Folk mellow vocals,This is The Kit, First Aid Kit, Hurray for the Riff Raff, all often played, so it's the kind of thing I like but it just lacks something for my ears.

Not from me. Already a fan of Willy Vlautin, and regularly listen to the Be Good Tanyas, Frazey Ford, Po Girl, Honeycutters, Gillian Welch, etc. On paper, I'm prime recruiting material for a Delines fan, but it just didn't do it for me. Some spark was lacking, which has nothing to do with crashing guitars.

Now I love crashing long guitar solo's (not drum solo's though) and yet the Delines just seem to do it for me...... odd innit?
