It appears most of the votes are in for Mrs 64's nominations. Don't forget you can always vote for them later & I shall update your votes accordingly

I believe out of the regulars who participate we've all nominated one set of albums.

Everyone is welcome to join in at any time

So who is next to nominate two of their favourite albums?

Do we go round again, then ?...........if so I'll give thought to another pair (which might score better than the dismal/ish ratings for my first two) :moggy:

Top 3 then (I think)

Spirit of Eden - Talk Talk - 4.2 - I passed on that one
Argus - Wishbone Ash - 4.0 - I passed on that one too
WYIN - Placebo - 3.8 -

The two I passed on would have dropped their averages I feel at least a little.

REM Out of Time
well..... not very good is it?

:star: :star: because there is nothing offensive on it

Supertramp - Crime of the Century
starts off with the haunting harmomica in School...... Love that track

but altogether seems a bit dated now
:star: :star: :star: .5

I don't think COTC is dated whatsoever Hector, I can think of several rock albums mentioned on our music topics that are far more dated, all opinions I suppose!

Out of the eight songs on COTC I prefer three of the last four tracks to three of the songs on side 1. I reckon the majority would disagree with me on that point

Thank you for your votes Hector

Not really gotten into the Talk Talk yet..had a couple of go's and it's nice enough. Wishbone Ash is not really my kind of music. Gave it another listen though.

Dreamer is the one Supertramp track I dislike even on Paris ...just seems so hollow. Rudy is the standout track but again I wouldn't bother listening to it on COTC if I have Paris available

I'm not even sure COTC is better than Crisis What Crisis

Surprisingly so as Spirit Of Eden has jazzy influences & is one of the great haunting albums of all-time

Wishbone Ash were one of the great guitar bands of the early 70's, love their melodic twin-guitar sound developing into pure rock. Argus is not their best as I prefer their self-titled debut & 2nd album Pilgrimage, I nominated their most commercial work which is still excellent imo!

'Dreamer' is one of my least favourite songs

Love 'Rudy' & Crisis

I also have Paris which is a superb live set

Think I'll pass on the Stones ..It'd be a very low ranking from me and I don't like to do that

Not a James fan so will be hearing this album for the first time, listening now

Highly rated it seems wiki has it that it should be mentioned in the same breath as Oasis/Blur and the Manics. None of which I enjoy. 3 tracks in and it's doing absolutely nothing for me and I feel disinclined to go further because I know I can guess what's coming, probably of it's time.

I'll pass there too sorry ...

In general I'm not a fan of Brit Pop, the only band I can tolerate are Mansun and they are more progressive than Brit Pop. I think they lazily get lumbered under the Brit Pop umbrella because there of that time.

I recalled from previous threads/posts that you're not a Jagger/Richards fan faaip so no surprise you have no liking for LiB.

As for Millionaires, I must say I've never really considered James to be a Britpop band and certainly not in the same bracket as the likes of Oasis/Blur/Pulp etc. For me they've grown as a group as they've gone on.

Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed

This album sums up what to me is the Stones sound is more than any other and is my favourite Stones album (with Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! a pretty close second).

It's difficult to think of songs like Midnight Rambler and Gimmie Shelter being done by anyone other than The Stones, but my favourites on the album are the title track, Let It Bleed and Love In Vain (although annoyingly on my vinyl copy the needle always sticks about halfway through this track, which means getting up to give it a nudge).

Being only 5yrs old when this album came out I came to it many years after its release, but it falls squarely in my upper echelon of 5 star albums...………………...and although we're rating the musical content here I'd also give a nod to the cover artwork. A top album cover !!
(I've always considered an album cover artwork as part of the overall package - and have all those Top Album Cover books. In fact when leaving school the job I wanted was designing album covers - I'd like to say I am now some famous album cover artist, but alas not :( )

James - Millionaires

I was never particularly a fan of James before their 1997 album 'Whiplash', which contains one of their best singles 'She's a Star'. Millionaires was the follow up album to this in 1999. I don't think it ever did particularly well commercially but as a whole piece of work I think it's their best album.

Best tracks - Just Like Fred Astaire, We're Going To Miss You, Strangers, Surprise, Someone's Got It In For Me.............although I really do like all of them.

As a band James have got better with age and some of their more recent albums (The Morning After, La Petite Mort, Girl At The End Of The World and their most recent, Living In Extraordinary Times (top track - Leviathan) are also very good IMO.

In terms of the artwork on this one - crap ! Please who thought a pot-bellied pig would be good cover material ?

(and, as a final aside although the ban are from Manchester Tim Booth is a Leeds fan :scarfe2: - who apparently is good mates with Gordon Strachan. That must be worth an extra :star: from you all ;-) :moggy: )
