Wigan Athletic v Leeds Utd Match Thread - Team unchanged from Forest
Wigan Athletic v Leeds Utd
Saturday 17th August 2019 3.00pm | DW Stadium
Leeds will be hoping to get back to winning ways following in the league their disappointing 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest last weekend at Elland Road. Though a Cup win against Salford was expected midweek, few predicted how dominant the Whites would be! Four days after dispatching the football football League's newest club, Leeds will be in action against neighbouring Wigan.
Bielsa has no new injury concerns, but faces selection dilemma's after watching his young fledglings take Salford apart?
Will the gaffer partner Nketiah and Bamford together?
Could Douglas make way for Alioski?
Is Shackleton too good to be a bench warmer?
Anyone feeling a bit sorry for Bogusz?
Berardi or Cooper at Centre back?
Anyone think Clarke deserves to start? What about Costa?
Will Leeds have any regrets about selling Pearce. He'll have a point to prove at the weekend?
Leeds Starting XI:
Casilla; Dallas, White, Cooper (c), Douglas; Phillips; Hernandez, Klich, Forshaw, Harrison; Bamford.
Re: Wigan Athletic v Leeds Utd Match Thread
Good evening Matt
The Wigan game has come too soon for me after our capitulation against them last season!
Nketiah to start for me, with or without Paddy up front (we need to get off the mark quickly)
Not sure re Alioski or Douglas
I like Shackleton as sub, gives us a bit extra when other teams are tiring
Cooper for me.....I think
Clarke on the bench for me
Haven't seen enough of Bogusz
Costa to start ( again, we need to get off the mark quickly)
Only time will tell re Pearce

I suspect Marcelo will select the same team that started v Forest

Hay Swanny, BIG question, if Bamford was drooped, what would it do to him mentally?whiteswan wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2019 8:42 pm Good evening Matt

Re: Wigan Athletic v Leeds Utd Match Thread
Evening Leon, I have not, and suspect not hearing what he was saying at the Salford presser about announcing his squad 48 hours in advance. I think he is realising that other teams are second guessing him.
Re: Wigan Athletic v Leeds Utd Match Thread
Will the gaffer partner Nketiah and Bamford together?
I doubt it
Could Douglas make way for Alioski?
Douglas will play, Alioski not at the races. Davis is a better defender than both
Is Shackleton too good to be a bench warmer?
Would give us more pace down the middle
Anyone feeling a bit sorry for Bogusz?
No as he is probably down the pecking order right now, his chance will come
Berardi or Cooper at Centre back?
Cooper & White are definite starters for me
Anyone think Clarke deserves to start? What about Costa?
A case for Costa.....Clarke no!
Will Leeds have any regrets about selling Pearce. He'll have a point to prove at the weekend?
I like Pearce but we supposedly have four or five players who can play in that position so I doubt Tom would have been considered in the first-team squad

Re: Wigan Athletic v Leeds Utd Match Thread
Same starting 11 as vs. Forest.
No.
No.
Possibly, but he's also not better than any of the current starters.
No - same story as Shack and he'll get his chance.
Cooper.
Clarke - No. Costa - Yes, but he'll be good from the bench (hopefully earlier).
No - Pearce had fallen down the pecking order and I can't see him having a huge influence on the game from left back to be honest.

Re: Wigan Athletic v Leeds Utd Match Thread
He will. If we've learned one thing about Bielsa it's that he rarely changes his team unless there is injury or suspension.
The good thing is we have some more than able deputies on the bench should that happen.
The flowers of common sense do not grow in everyone's garden
Re: Wigan Athletic v Leeds Utd Match Thread
At least now that MB has plenty of options it isn't so obvious who plays therefore making it difficult for the opposition to second guess his team selection although most teams will play the same way against us anyway.. hope to hit us on the break and keep pumping the high balls in to our box .
Its beginning to look like we've actually done well selling Clarke for 10 mil. Bench for him .
I think MB will have Costa & Eddie on the bench and let last weeks team try to do the business first off but I hope they get 20-30 mins game time at least.
The pressure is on PB now, lets see how he copes. Just as well this game is away from home as it just eases the pressure slightly but he'll know if he fluffs his lines he'll be off.

Will the gaffer partner Nketiah and Bamford together?
Unlikely to see Nketiah start
Could Douglas make way for Alioski?
Douglas improved against forest, he won’t be dropped
Is Shackleton too good to be a bench warmer?
Only place I could see him start is in place of Dallas, Bielsa won’t drop him
Anyone feeling a bit sorry for Bogusz?
No, his chance will come, I would like to see him get a few minutes though
Berardi or Cooper at Centre back?
Berardi on the bench
Anyone think Clarke deserves to start? What about Costa?
There has to be room made for Costa to come into the side, I think he’ll be the only change, Clarke for me is still best off the bench.
Will Leeds have any regrets about selling Pearce. He'll have a point to prove at the weekend?
Very possible, things tend to come back to bite us in the ass, he will have a point to prove of course, but he was 4th choice at LB, was only fair to him to let him go,

Re: Wigan Athletic v Leeds Utd Match Thread
If posh boy hasn't scored by half time, Eddie will come on to replace him, don't think we will see the 2 of them together unless we are losing....
Douglas is safe enough for the moment, the Macedonian Muppet is on a go slow for him, so not good enough so far this season.
Shackleton on the bench is the best place at the moment, as if he comes on as a sub, he will terrify the Wigan midfield and they won't be able to catch him or stop him without fouling him.
Bogusz will get his day, and then will be hard to replace....
Cooper and White as CB's... Berardi being fit and ready will keep them honest..
Clarke not good enough to start in his current form... I think our business with Spurs was a good move,
Costa could come on for Pablo after 60 mins...
Pearce will be fine, but not good enough to prove a point..

Lee Sobot
@LeeSobotYEP
Brilliant from Bielsa on team news: "Now I cannot say the team because one supporter said that two days before I give too much information to the other team. But between you and me it's going to be the same team." #lufc
So that's this topic sorted in a nutshell

So I predict the team will be :
Casilla, Dallas, White, Cooper, Douglas, Phillips, Hernandez, Forshaw, Klich, Harrison, Bamford.

Hi Matt....I assume you mean 'dropped'....not 'drooped'....as Sara commented onEllandback1 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2019 9:11 pm Hay Swanny, BIG question, if Bamford was drooped, what would it do to him mentally?
I'm not sure how it would affect him, but we need a goalscorer who can score goals. I'd love him to score a hat trick on Saturday, I've always supported him and had faith in him but maybe we need to give the new lad a 'go'.
Re: Wigan Athletic v Leeds Utd Match Thread
Make the most of today, my umpteenth consecutive away league game, it could be my last for a while as I may have missed out on Stoke & could be the same v Barnsley
