The films aren't great but that's not really down to Cruise imo, he plays the tough guy well enough. The adaptation is poor and the films don't hang together like the books imo.

God knows why they started where they did too, The Killing Floor would have made a great "pilot" film, as would any of the first half dozen. On a separate point Lee Child has lost the plot a bit in the last book or three. Though I did enjoy "No Middle Name" for the insight.

Probably doesn't help that I don't rate Cruise, and it possibly would have worked had I not read the books, but.....

Agree re Killing Floor, perfect place to start a film franchise, if that's what it's going to be. "No Middle Name" is the last one I read, enjoyed it. I used to devour the series as they came out, but have been dipping in and out of late. Perhaps a sign that they're not as gripping as they once were.

Very much so. I liked how it played out, no sacchirine ending, recognition of a long road ahead. Probably rang true for a lot of injured veterans.

No, not come across that one, but apart from GoT, I haven't read any fantasy for years.

I enjoyed the Potter books, and thought the films were faithful renderings, but JK is an arse.

LOTR was probably as good as could be expected, given the potential for completely destroying it, as they did with the hobbit

I had a crime phase, enjoying John Sandford's Prey series, but rarely read fiction now.

Like Sara I very rarely read fiction. I always seem to see a book and think that sounds good, buy it and it then gets added to the pile waiting to be read. The problem is I rarely read at home, I think because I have to read through a lot of stuff at work - so don’t find it that relaxing to then read at home. So it’s only really on holiday I can get through 3 or 4 books in a week or 2.

One I did read when we were away in the summer was The Tent, The Bucket and Me by Emma Kennedy - really funny and would recommend if you lived through 70’s family camping holidays.
