The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 10th December) - £10m for Harrison is surely a no brainer?

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Tuesday 10th December, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Brighton delighted with White's progress

Brighton have told Leeds that they are delighted with Ben White's progress at Eland Road and have no plans to recall him. To my knowledge, White's only recall clause would have been dependant on games played, and as the 22 year old has played almost every game this season Brighton wouldn't be able to end White's loan spell even if they wanted to.

£10m for Harrison a no brainer?

According to Phil Hay, he believes Manchester City would accept 10m for Jack Harrison! The 23 year old has come on leaps and bounds this season following his inconsistent form last term. It is well known that Leeds have an option to buy Harrison at the end of the season, and the former Chief football writer for the YEP believes with 18 months left on his contract at the Etihad, a fee of 10m would be about right.

Thoughts?

Team selection for tonight's crunch gave against Hull

With Kalvin Phillips returning to the starting XI after his one match suspension, and Ben White reoccupying his central defensive duties, who will Bielsa decide to drop from the team to partner the Brighton loanee at centre back? Noel Whelan gives his thoughts;

It’s a tough one for Bielsa and I don’t know who he will leave out, I’m a bit baffled on that one. Bielsa doesn’t normally drop anyone from the side, unless it’s due to an injury or suspension. The only time we really see it happen is when Liam Cooper has recovered from one of his injuries and Berardi drops out. You can’t leave out Alioski, as he gives you that attacking threat, Dallas has been outstanding this season…[Mateusz] Klich starts every game. You can’t leave out Helder Costa, Pablo [Hernandez] is the one who makes things happen. It’s not obvious who to leave out.

What changes would you make this evening?

Morning EB et all

Good news on Ben definitely need him until the end of the season would love him beyond that in the Prem but I suspect we’ll miss out on the one

Harrison for £10m yes or better still get him on loan next season let him run his contract down then have him for free

I think it will be Ben and Berardi as CBs but haven’t a clue who will get dropped, Bielsa might surprise us all and drop Kiko and play without a keeper he’s that mad/genius :duno:

Considering Costa was 15mil rated, 10mil seems a very good price for a player who's only getting better. I'd rather have him than Ryan Kent at this moment in time and he was 10mil unless I'm mistaken.

White & Nketiah

Were going nowhere in January contrary to some fans thoughts on here

Who drops out tonight

Who knows what Marcelo is thinking? a team selection conundrum for a change

Harrison

If we are promoted I suspect we'll be in the market for a better option. I suppose paying £10m for a player to sit on the bench is chicken feed in the premiership

Surely if Citeh regarded Harrison as a premiership player they wouldn't sell him to Leeds for £10m

I don't think it's a question of him being Prem quality, rather Man City quality, and there's no way in hell he'd get into the first team any time soon so why keep him around? With 18 months on his contract it makes sense to cash in, but what other top flight club would pay more than 10mil for a good player with no Prem experience?

I think Bielsa's proven experience in improving and developing young players is one of our best assets, and Harrison will comfortably become PL quality at the current rate.

I agree pal.

It was revealed last week that Bielsa made it a condition of him staying this season that Leeds get Costa!!!

Saying that, Costa is improving day on day

Morning folks.

10m for Harrison?
Where did all this money come from??
Seeing we are so rich perhaps we could purchase White as well.

Tonight. I expect Alioski to get benched.

Thinking of loan players it seems that Mujica isnt getting much game time at Extremadura. 5 games but mainly off the bench. His club is heading towards relegation too.

Maybe he needs recalled... Or we could loan him to Bristol seeing they have been very vocal in their search for a striker

Is his mate Amor still at Leeds or did we farm him out too?

Does Harrison fall into the gap of being too expensive for us in the championship, but not good enough for us in the prem? It seems a lot depends on where we are at the end of the season, and whether Marcelo is still with us or not.

Jack would be a great acquisition for Leeds United next term one way or another.
Whether City would sell might yet be or become the issue.

City did it with Aaron Mooy - sold him to Huddersfield for £10m after he was there on loan in their promotion season. A huge difference between being good enough for the premiership and being good enough to be in the City squad.

If we do get promoted I could see Bielsa using the majority of the current starting XI in the premiership as they would have 2 years of training under him (or 1 in some cases). I don't think you would see Bielsa wanting to bring more than 3 or 4 new players into the group.

Harrison is an investment to City, he wasn't signed with the intention of ever being good enough to play for the first team (he wont be), similar to Mooy, they are players City signed from their feeder clubs to hopefully make a profit on.

Its actually similar to what Radz has tried to do just far more successfully, its part of the business plan at City.

Whether Harrison is Prem class im not so sure, life would be very different for us in the Prem, how many of our players would cope with us being on the defensive far more often and relying on the odd break? A lot will depend on the ownership situation, who the boss is, if we are promoted.

MB is no fool, he has always said since he arrived he would only want players better then we have, if we were in a position to give him better then would he even want Harrison?

Team selection.

Not sure what MB will do, Phillips will start but I don't know who for.

Does he replace Ali and Dallas goes to lb, Ayling to rb, White to cb? (hope not)

Does he replace Berardi and White drops to cb next to Ayling?

Does he replace Dallas and Ayling shifts across and White moves back?

Personally im torn over Berardi or Ayling, Dallas imo is the best right back we have now, Ali is just the best ever, so for me it would be who is the best of the right backs at cb? Berardi is the better defender but as we have seen (understandably) big, strong strikers cause him a lot of issues because of his lack of height, also Hull are counter attack specialists, that's their style, Berardi is slow and Bowen and Grosicki in a foot race have him on toast unless he can get a tackle in before it becomes a sprint. FInally, vs Udders Berardi was awful on the ball, gave it away more then any other player (14), tbf that's a rarity for him but do that against Bowen and Grosicki and we will suffer.

On the other hand, Ayling isn't as good a defender as Berardi, he relies on the cringeworthy Ayling flop far to much because he finds himself in the wrong position to much. Furthermore, Ayling never looks comfortable at cb imo, he hasn't got the defensive positional instincts of Berardi and it causes gaps that shouldn't exist. He actually did do better vs Udders imo then he has at cb before, but that was a rare one and his passing was almost as bad as Berardi.

So for me its a trying to decide who would suit Hull more, the better defender but with less height, pace and of course the red card in waiting worry, or the worse defender but one who has more height and pace.

I don't know

Surely some players reach a certain level they are incapable of surpassing. It would be like me pitching my bowls skills against a county player on a regular basis!

If Coop not fit it'll be Ayling White Beradi as the back 3 (Beradi drop out if Coop is fit)

Kalvin at DMF, Costa at wingback right, Harrison wingback left

Klich Dallas centre mid

Hernandez at 10

Bamford the 9

As many of you are not interested in the premiership I think you are underestimating the quality, pace, clinical finishing, energy levels , etc in comparison to the championship, a different level altogether as many clubs have found to their cost once up there. Yes the likes of Bournemouth, Burnley, Brighton & Watford have consolidated in mid-table in the prem over the last few years but for how long?
Watford could be this seasons casualty, Norwich are struggling. The blunts are doing exceedingly well which could be first-season surprise syndrome for them, if they go on a bad run then sack Wilder they could end up like all the other promoted clubs who have struggled in the Prem.

I do think we have more going for us as a club, however if we go up there & refuse to invest in the squad we'll end up like all the other has-beens eventually!

Of course mate but a team under Beisla wouldn't be found lacking in terms of Pace& a very high energy plan.Though the quality would certainly defensively in terms of punishment dished out at all top teams.
Mistakes & lapses would cost you in the Premier league.Investment would certainly come into play Marcelo Beisla would certainly be up for it unquestionably.

I'm under no illusions .If Leeds go up this squad will not be good enough . There are too many weak links to sustain a level of performance to keep picking up points and avoiding defeat. I think the style of football suits the PL better than the championship but to do it in the PL requires better quality players than the ones currently on board . Norwich have barely invested , hoping last season's squad will keep them up but its not looking good atm. It looks like a 'take the money and run ' ploy from them. Blades have spent a bit and they are making a better fist of it atm. Villa have spent enormously and finding it a real struggle but I think they'll survive and kick on. Its not the amount spent but who it's spent on that matters .
