Time to hit the panic button?

Post by YorkshireSquare »

A few weeks ago we were on a winning streak of 7, the points gap we built up in the first half of the season looked like it may see us over the line, we'd have to do a lt wrong to not get promoted. We now have just one win in six, dropped a point on West Brom and Brentford are only six behind.

It's all feeling too much like last season. Should be be panicking or is this form temporary?

Unfortunately I think it now must be quite easy for good opposition coaches to suss out how to play against us, thankfully for us there aren't too many of those in this division so we may still get a play off place, but 1 win in the last 6 games is a big worry. I am not convinced that as good as Bielsa is he can get automatic promotion with this squad.......but even if we sign some quality how long before they play :(

Time for MB to have a re-think. There is an element of a post Arsenal hangover and the plaudits rained down upon us going to heads ..always happens. I do think there's been a striker issue now since the season started and it's a massive weakness for us. Maybe we stop asking him to play as a defender but I'm not sure he has much going for him as an off the shoulder striker as there's little quickness or suddenness to his game.

Should have happened by now but the 23's that are on the verge need to be integrated.

Is it a coincidence the best half of football we have played in ages was in a game with no pressure at all?

Panic, no.

But i have a horrible sense of deja vu.

Solid defence starts to concede at will (like last season).

Wasteful in front of goal (like last season).

Mentally fragile imo know some dont agree but a lot of this squad are not mentally cut out for the pressure of a promotion challenge imo and that worries me most of all.

The latter will be fan affected fragility. The likes of Norwich/SU and Brentford don't heap the amount of pressure on players LUFC fans do...Desperation helps no one but we're so desperate as fans now it could be affecting the players...

There's no good reason other than massive expectation, almost demand, that our players are not mentally able. That will affect anyone coming in too irrespective of the money we spend on them.

I'm worried. I don't think I can take another 19 games of watching our beloved team implode. At least we will know by the end of January - if we don't sign 2 or 3 quality players there is no chance were going up. Sure things can change pretty quickly as villa showed last year, but it's all too familiar at the moment.

Bielsa needs to change something, but he won't because he only has a plan A.

Also casilla needs to be dropped starting with the next game. He cannot be trusted to keep us in the game. How many teams have scored from their only shot on target ? Too many.

Im sure we play our part, we have big expectations and with that comes pressure that you don't generally experience outside of a few clubs in this country.

But a lot of these players have been in multiple Leeds sides that have been in good positions heading in to the new year and wilted.

Players playing for us have to handle that pressure, that's what good players do, that's what winning sides do in the end, deal with the pressure, hold their nerve.

We aren't alone in this tbf, Derby, Wendies, they all have recent history for the same thing.

Hopefully nerves will settle "when" we sign a confident striker. The prime cause of anxiety has to be failing to score so many of our chances, especially in the first half.

Take 7 points from the next 9, and don't lose to Forest, Brentford or Bristol, and I'll start to believe again.

We are nearly halfway through the window already though, so the club needs to act fast before it slips any further.

I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the football we have played and thank you to Bielsa for that, but the simple fact is that if we create x number of chances in the first half of games and balloon them over the bar or wide of the post etc, we all know the end result. What sickens me about today is that the Wendies are just a hard working, probably mid table championship team and they did us, what sickens me more is that I sort of expected it. Its not too late to get a turn around but Bielsa just doesn't change things !!

Panic? No, it’s never a good thing, but the hangover from last year won’t go away and it will amplify any worry that the fans or the players have, we didn’t stand up to the pressure last year, can we this year?

Not panic, more the resigned apathetic acceptance that the condemned prisoner experiences as he gets marched out to face the firing squad.

Even when Bamford was scoring I knew in my heart of hearts he wasnt prolific enough. Even when he wasnt scoring I knew Bielsa wouldn't give the Arsenal kid a run. - Then insultingly he drops him in to our two most difficult away games of the season- pathetic really.tut tut look he isnt what we need. Bielsa vindicated, move on.

Not so fast.

Today we didnt need to press as Sheffield were happy to give us all the ball we wanted, So Bamfords trump card wasnt needed. But we still depended on languid lacklustre ponderous, striker to find room and a killer touch in the box No cigar. At one point Bamford had the ball at his feet, it needed fast feet, quick vision, he had neither and the chance dissipated.
Nketiah is a huge loss, and is one reason that we are staring at the firing squad this early in the season. He is a Daniel James, Ryan Kent size loss. And is the main reason why EVEN IF WE WENT ON A WINNING STREAK I would still not expect top 2 at the end of April.

He is still a dud.

Bielsa Radz and Orta, surprise me. You have three weeks

Please

Agree here, no panic but concern, when you looked at our bench yesterday had Bamford got a knock and needed to come off where was the replacement striker, we had no fire power or game changer.
It’s starting to look like we’ve been sussed out by other championship clubs as we’ve been nullified by teams over the last few games. It’s clear we can’t mess about in the weeks we have left in the transfer window and need deals doing ASAP. No point throwing away all the hard work from the first half of the season by failing to recruit a proven striker.
An early start next Saturday and we need to get back to winning ways and go back to the top of the table to give ourselves a psychological boost. It’s a big big game next week.

No, we are six points clear of 3rd

We need players in & that is up to Radz & Orta to get their fingers out & finish off the job they should have completed in the summer

Also Bielsa needs to pick the right team & make the correct substitutions too!

We said the same things this time last year but no one listened...are they listening now ?

While profligacy in front of goal us the obvious concern our central midfield isnt working. Dallas needs to tell the boss that he isnt suited there.
If we havent brought in a senior professional by next weekend it is panic time.

Btw do any of you accountants out there have an inkling about how much cash Leeds may have to work with, ffp wise?

From the Phil Hay podcast I linked elsewhere, about £8 million, if it's structured properly.
