Re: The Film Thread
I dug out a copy of Fords Grapes of Wrath last week.
Have to say even though it is set in the 1930s it is as up to date as if it was made yesterday,
It makes a decent fist of John Steinbacks novel.

I got the name Chilli at work about 20 years ago Ian.
The place I used to work made these orgasmic chilli cheese rolls and I couldn't get enough of them despite them being fiery hot.
They started calling me Chilli and it stuck to this day.
Less boring than Dave that's for sure.

At school I was Barney. From barnacles ( which you cant get off) which was a testimony to my marking skills when we played football.
De Niro ( the beer hunter) - All because I wore a camouflage T shirt one day.
And The Professor with those at work.

Re: The Film Thread
Yeah the trailer didn't look remotely funny to me, but all I see are 5 star reviews, so I'll probably still check it out. Johansson's German accent sounded terrible as well.

Re: The Film Thread
As i'm getting older my propaganda detector has gotten sharper and 90 percent of films are crawling with it, even if they dress it up with A list actors and engaging dialog i am like, ah i see what you did there so iv'e become more and more picky and dodge most of the American ones
An example of how they operate is like how they will take cult films from other countries and turn them into direct to DVD
There are a few really good British films about actually,
We get a lot of stick, (mainly by us) but we actually make some really good stuff but they're probably not as easy to find.
There is a little band of writer/director/actors going around and they all star in each others films all within last 10 years,
i watched one and it led me on the other and so on
The main one is Ben Wheatley he is probably the most well known, Made Kill list which is Dark as f**k, only has a 6.5 on IMDB most of these do but ignore that they are pure gold all of them
Sightseers was his other about some square who takes his new girlfriend on a boring caravan tour but kills people on the way who irritate him, then the two actors in that made their own films
Prevenge- Pregnant women gets told by her baby in womb to kill people- note all these films contain murder and are slightly dark but they all have black humour
Borderlands
Ghoul
Down Terrace
there are a few more i can't think of to hand but all worth a watch
Still a couple of Ben Wheatley i haven't seen but i am saving them

On my hit list that,
The Korean ones are right up there
I saw the Devil
The Chaser
Memories of Murder
Wailing
Handmaiden
Tale of two sisters
Bedevilled-(Really dark)
Anything goes in these films usually a bummer ending but they sit with you

Re: The Film Thread
Watched 1917 over the weekend.
Must say what a good film, not the usual style of war film, and only briefly touches on the horror of going over the top, more about 1 mans personal journey over 24 hours....
Highly recommend it.
