Born to Run. Like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays, Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Wish You Were Here Welcome my son, welcome to the machine.
Sabotage That riffing on Symptom of the Universe
Physical Graffiti .For Kashmir alone!
Fighting Rosalie! Rosalie!

I didn't vote for my Dylan nomination in the '65 poll as I considered the five I voted for were better albums.

I'll be voting for my nomination this time though :-D

It would have to be. My less-than-humble opinion of Led Zeppelin:

From their eight studio albums there's about an album and a half of truly great material. I can do without the rest. For every Black Dog (which is a truly great song), you have to suffer through a Misty Mountain Hop or When the Levee Breaks (does that song EVER end?).

Saw them live once and they simply didn't do it for me. If I want to hear a band sound so ragged I'll go to a Grateful Dead show. Page needs to be in the studio, apparently. To me Townshend and Page are polar opposites. Page really shows well on studio recordings but just doesn't thrill live. Townshend, however, really tore it up live.

Am I right in saying Page couldn't read music? he use to improvise on stage

Townshend was mesmerising live :guitar:

I get what you are saying John. ( though I like Misty Mountain)

I was too young to see them live and every time Plant comes to town I always seem to hear too late.
But I am not a big Zep fan.

I was exposed to Zep 2 though from an early age

Trying to listen to Kraftwerk but it just sounds like a cross between long wave radio and Windows 98 :roflmao:

Pink Floyd
Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow
Black Sabbath
Fleetwood Mac
Blue Oyster Cult

Given top spot to WYWH (over RB AND Rainbow who I have always been at the top for me) as SOYCD is one of my favourite ever tracks of music and the bit about 6.20 minutes when Richard Wright’s keyboards kick in still gives me goosebumps.

Special thanks to who suggested Richie Blackmore.

Most of Rainbow is a bit meh for me but today the live version of Stargazer popped up on my player.

https://youtu.be/rVXy1OhaERY

If someone was to ask me what Heavy Metal is play them Stargazer.

That drum solo desending us into the chaos.
The malevolent guitar.
Thumping bass
Anthemic keyboards

And pulling it all together is all probably one of the best metal singers there was.
Ronnie James Dio, the evil Dwarf.

Where is your star?
Is it far, is it far, is it far?
When do we leave?
I believe, yes, I believe

Pity Rainbow couldnt hit those highs often enough.

Was me Ian.

Stargazer from Rising is probably their stand out track, although RBR does include my own favourite 'Catch the Rainbow' - I would recommend the live version on either the Rainbow Live in Munich 1977 or Deutschland Tournee 1976 (Dusseldorf one) albums. Slightly different from each other, but then RB does tend to go where the mood takes him with his guitar solos each time.

It did all go a bit downhill after Dio left/was fired, although Down to Earth is a good album and there are some good tracks on the Difficult to Cure, Bent Out Of Shape and Straight Between The Eyes albums (although there are some not so good ones as well).
