I think the main problem is the incubation period during which it is contagious.

With flu it is a couple of days,and once you have it, you feel like s**t and don't go out anywhere.

With this, everyone who is contagious doesn't know, so it is spreading a lot quicker. Although it seems once it is developed, you feel like s**t,and md 10 times more people shuffle off this mortal coil with it, that is the factor that is making the governments panic, the death rate of it once developed.

Here is a link to a website which shows not only the total numbers infected, but also those who have recovered, within that overall total. It's very informative. Most people will recover completely. Many won't even know they have had the virus. It's easy to be dispassionate about it but it's when you think of those people who already have underlying illnesses, and the frail and elderly, you realise they are not just stats, they are someone's wife/husband, grandmother/father etc. We all need to take reasonable precautions, but what is reasonable. How far do you go to protect yours or someone elses loved ones? I leave that as an open question, to which I have no answer.

The difference between seasonal flu and covid19 is that there is a vaccine against flu. Also the mortality rate is much higher in covid19. So if as many people get covid19 as seasonal flu millions will die.

Italians have said they will probably cancel the rest of the season. They might make playoffs for the top places, cancel the results or leave it as it is with the current standings. I hope if they do it here they just leave current standings. Any other result or delaying next season could leave us financially screwed.

The trouble is with large public events you are encouraging people to spread the virus. being outside at a football match has very little risk but its the using of public transport etc that could be seen as irresponsible.

I think it does need to be contained, but what then? Surely its not going to go away? or is it just until we find a vaccination?

Would be just Leeds luck that the season gets cancelled and we don't go up

Hearing of a bit of a brawl in one of our local supermarkets today, apparently a couple had 2 trolleys full of beans, soups and others canned items, a few other shoppers took exception and it kicked off.

Good old days?....a good ruck..... So....some people think its funny do they that my 89 year old Dad, who is the main and only carer of my 90 year old Mum. He goes to their local supermarket which is a challenge in itself for him, to find that the regular things that he buys week in week out are stuffed in trolleys by selfish people who do not normally buy these things....there is nothing left for Dad! What is he to do? I'm sick and tired of these people who are so called panic buying.....its pathetic, and quite frankly putting the ill and elderly more at risk....

It's a hell of a conundrum. I've never had a flu shot and never will. I had a bad attack 40/45 years ago and was in bed for a week. I never went to the doctor, just used common sense, plenty of water and just enough food.

There is something to be said for exposure to such diseases because those who aren't badly affected can obtain their own immunity in exchange for a relatively minor amount of discomfort - thus me that year with the flu - the medical profession always talk about not knowing which strain this year's is going to be , "but you should get a flu shot anyway". Why, if it's not meant for the current strain - utter crap to me.

I'll grant the Coronavirus is said to be more deadly than flu but, if you could, tell that to the Spanish Flu victims of last century, which was probably (I haven't done the math) worse than Coronavirus, and people may stop panicking.

The poor souls who die from such diseases can't help their immune systems being inadequate to fight off the invaders, but is it any different to people who die from measles, diptheria, all the other illnesses we were probably inoculated against in our teens? We can't protect everyone and shutting down the world isn't going to help in the long run. The ones who would benefit from gaining their own immunity against future infections will not gain that immunity - thus if this virus comes out again later, they may be weakened at that stage by their lack of immunity and succumb to it.

There are many ways to look at this but no correct answers at all.

Had a bloody cold since Christmas and still got the cough, how you supposed to know you have it. I go on a hifi site occasionally and all the old boys are panic stricken, personally if I get it have had I'll either be here or not although I don't suppose I'm in an at risk category. I have in the past done a few asthma trials consisting of bronchoscopy I asked if others put themselves forward or just complain about the NHS and just like the payback. No replies funnily.
